NHL 2008-09 Season

Holland is in negotiations with Hossa and Franzen. I'm sure they will resign Franzen, but Hossa did get some large offers last season, bigger than we can afford. If he gets his ring this season, I can see him opting for financial security elsewhere. I'm hoping we can find a way to keep him. That guy can put the puck in the net!

The Pens offered good money last year, I'm sure he'll want more.

LOL.

He will probably sign a long term contract with you guys.

Hossa will stay in Detroit if he wants to WIN, go elsewhere if he wants more money.
He will fit in the Red Wings financial structure or he will go elsewhere.

They won't make an exception for him, there are many other stars there that would deserve more money first.

Everybody else is signed except for those two and Hudler and Samuelson. If they sign Hossa and Franzen, the last two may be left outside looking in. Lieno and Helms are standing in line to take their places. So that makes Hudler and Samuelson expendable. I'd hate to lose Hudler, but I would rather have Hossa and Franzen. Can't keep Lieno and Helms down much longer, they have been outstanding in their time with the Wings. Gotta love our depth!

GO RED WINGS!!!

Bruins ahead of Devils, 4-1 with about nine minutes left in the third.

HUGE game for the Bruins to put some distance between themselves and Jersey for the EC #1 seed.

New Jersey and Boston are elite teams in the East, yet NBC did what they always do- show Pittsburgh or the Rangers.

NBC stads for

Nonstop
Biased
Coverage of the Rangers and Penguins

Bruins clinched the Northeast Division

Still amazed that this team has done so well since the trade of you-know-who.

I think they're better than the Devils because of scoring depth- Devils have Parise, Elias, and that's it.

The B's do have a lot of depth...no question about that.

My biggest fear come playoff time is experience (last year's near upset of Montreal notwithstanding).

Is there any sport- out of the four majors- that the intensity level goes up ten fold in the postseason like the NHL does?

I don't think so.

Speaking of Bruins-Canadiens, there's a strong possibilty that they'll have a 1 vs. 8 first round rematch.

But, THIS time the Bruins are the 1 and the Canadiens are the 8.

I'm wondering if that has ever happened before, in EITHER the NHL or NBA?

Experience is overrated.

Look at last year's Penguins- they were a team that had little playoff experience, yet made it to the Finals.

The key is matchups.

Bill, you were worried about drawing the Sabres- they're done. You don't have to worry about Buffalo.

Carolina's nothing to fear, as are the Rangers.

Either Carolina or Florida would be my ideal choice.

The Blue Jackets are 6 points ahead in the playoff battle (for the last spot) with only 10 games remaining. I really hope that this is the year they make the playoffs for the first time ever. :D

The Bruins played Columbus a couple of weeks, and I was very impressed with the Blue Jackets.

They really took it to Boston that night!

That was right after they blew past Detroit 8-2. They have been really lucky with their rookie goaltender this year. Mason is leading the league in shutouts this year.

Sabres, don't give up on your team just yet. I admit it doesn't look good right now, but they're still only five points out with ten games left. That's not insurmountable!

Here's a look at the Eastern Conference:

1. Boston...................... 102 points.............9 games remaining
2. New Jersey.................97 points..............10 GR
3. Washington................96 points..............8 GR
4. Philadelphia................88 points.............11 GR
5. Pittsburgh..................86 points.............8 GR
6. Carolina.....................85 points..............8 GR
7. NY Rangers................84 points..............9 GR
8. Montreal....................81 points..............10 GR
*************************************************************
9. Florida.......................80 points..............10 GR
10. Buffalo.....................76 points.............10 GR
11. Ottawa....................74 points..............10 GR
12. Toronto...................73 points...............9 GR

What's the record for largest point-diffential between a division's first and second place team?

The Bruins have a 21-point division lead- 21! That is staggering!
