NFL preseason 2010-2011 Official discussion thread!

Maybe I just don't get it, because I'm just a technician, but let's say another company comes calling to me about a job, even the main competition, why do they need to notify my current company first?

Please explain this to me.

1st of all, chances are the guy is UNDER CONTRACT to the Titans, I cannot believe he wouldn't be.
NFL coaches usually are.

Normally the Head Coach is talked to or the GM when another team is interested in your coach.
Thats one of those "Unwritten Rules" that ought to be written !

edit: Thats a pretty broad brush you're using there. I don't think "most" coaches are like Kiffin. In fact, I would like to believe most coaches aren't like that. It's hard to stay on top, so I could see how tactics are used to keep up.

Some are smoother than other, some are better at hiding it than most. But, most cases, they do SOME KIND of tampering. EVERYONE talks. I wish people would get out of there heads that this business is done with smiles, trust and a handshake. Those days are LONG gone. IT is a "what have you done for me lately" business. You did great 2 years ago, but last year you sucked and coaches take too much blame for things that go wrong and too much credit when things go right.

Yep. But the NFL is the biggest of all the copy cat leagues. They see something that worked somewhere else, so they go searching for the coaches that can pull it off.....at all cost.

They must have offered him a MINT, moving from the NFL to College, then again USC is a small Pro team anyways. They probably have the cash as well.

Still not there yet with this one.

I think this is BS on so many levels, Unwritten Rules, but then Salsa says that "everyone" does it.

Is it written into contracts? Because this guy was talking to college teams, not the Saints.

I see Dez Bryant duct taped to a goal post in his future!!

...I am already looking forward to the the pics!

Dez Bryant refuses the chores of a lowly rookie

By MJD

Veteran wide receiver Roy Williams was expected to clash with rookie Dez Bryant(notes) in competition for playing time at Dallas Cowboys training camp. I guess they're going to be clashing over some other stuff, too.

It's tradition at training camps for vets to make the rookies carry their pads after practice. Things like that have been going on as long as the NFL has existed. Rookies carry pads. Rookies get donuts. Rookies sing their school fight songs in front of everyone. Rookies are in the back of the line for everything.

After practice Sunday, though, Williams attempted to give Bryant his pads, but Bryant wasn't having it. He let Williams know he could carry his own pads. From Tim McMahon at ESPNDallas.com:

"I'm not doing it," Bryant said. "I feel like I was drafted to play football, not carry another player's pads."

"If I was a free agent, it would still be the same thing. I just feel like I'm here to play football. I'm here to try to help win a championship, not carry someone's pads. I'm saying that out of no disrespect to [anyone]."

And Williams response:

Williams said he still remembers carrying Tai Streets' pads when he was a rookie with the Detroit Lions in 2004, and paying for plenty of meals— something he expects Bryant to eventually do, too, though they haven't spoken about it yet.

"He wants to concentrate on football, and we're going to let him concentrate on football," Williams said. "But when we go out to eat, I'm going to be a little bit more hungry and thirsty."

Now Mr. Bryant says he did not know about the tradtion of carrying pads....Come on, at any level the rookies or the younger ones carry things out. Its starts in High School, College then pros.

As always though its the media's fault
