Bryant, the 24th pick of the draft, is expected to report on time for Cowboys training camp on Saturday in San Antonio.

Bryant, who was unavailable for comment, becomes the first first-round pick to agree to a contract, even beating out St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford, who was the No. 1 pick of the draft. Bradford, who played college ball at Oklahoma, is expected to get the largest contract in league history for a rookie.

The Bryant deal is a relief for the Cowboys because there was speculation he would not make it into camp on time.

Eugene Parker, Bryant's agent, had worked deals with previous first-round selections Mike Jenkins and Felix Jones, who reported a few days late to camp.

But Parker understood how important it was for his client to get in on time. Bryant even said over the summer he expected to report to camp when it started.

The only draft pick unsigned by the Cowboys is second-rounder Sean Lee from Penn State.

I believe that this is the 1st First round pick to sign a contract this year.

Just one day before rookies are due to report for training camp, the Cleveland Browns secured their potential quarterback of the future.

Third-round pick Colt McCoy agreed to a four-year deal Thursday worth up to $5 million, according to a league source. The normal slot is approximately $3.275 million. But McCoy got the "quarterback premium," which shows the faith Cleveland has in McCoy as its long-term solution at quarterback.

McCoy was a four-year starter at the University of Texas. Last season he threw for 3,521 yards and 27 touchdowns and completed 70.6 percent of his passes. McCoy is expected to begin training camp as the third quarterback behind Browns starter Jake Delhomme and veteran backup Seneca Wallace.

Colt was picked in the 3rd, not the 1st round. (Our 2nd 3rd round pick actually). A bargain, huh?

ENGLEWOOD— NFL sacks leader Elvis Dumervil agreed to a long-term extension with the Denver Broncos.

The defensive end had a team record 17 sacks last season, started in the Pro Bowl and was selected All-Pro. He ranks third in the NFL with 43 sacks since his rookie season in 2006.

Sources told The Denver Post that Dumervil agreed to a five-year, $58.332 million extension.

On top of the $3.168 million salary Dumervil was already going to make this season, his contract stretches to six years and $61.5 million. He will receive $43.168 million of that money, guaranteed against injury, through the 2013 season.

Coach Josh McDaniels praised Dumervil's handling of the talks, saying he's "the type of player and person we want on our team."

Bryant won't carry pads

SAN ANTONIO -- Receiver Dez Bryant has done everything right on the field during the first two days of Dallas Cowboys training camp, but he refuses to participate in an NFL rite of passage.

According to the rookie first-round pick, Roy Williams and the other veteran receivers can carry their own shoulder pads after practice.

Williams gave his pads to Bryant after Sunday's morning practice, but Bryant declined to carry them. Williams threatened to go to "step two" when talking to reporters.

"I'm not doing it," Bryant said. "I feel like I was drafted to play football, not carry another player's pads."

"If I was a free agent, it would still be the same thing. I just feel like I'm here to play football. I'm here to try to help win a championship, not carry someone's pads. I'm saying that out of no disrespect to [anyone]."

It's a common duty for rookies, who typically get some sort of hazing. Bill Parcells used to make first-round picks bring him water during breaks in practice. The Cowboys' rookie offensive linemen are given awful haircuts by the veterans at some point during each training camp.

"Everybody has to go through it," Williams said. "I had to go through it. No matter if you're a No. 1 pick or the 7,000th pick, you've still got to do something when you're a rookie.

"I carried pads. I paid for dinners. I paid for lunches. I did everything I was supposed to do, because I didn't want to be that guy."

What would "step two" be?

"We'll find out. Definitely going to find out," Williams said. "I don't know. I've seen guys take people's credit cards and go fill up their cards and wife's cards and everything. There's a lot of dirt that goes on in that locker room."

Bryant, a Lufkin, Texas, native who went to Oklahoma State, has become an immediate fan favorite. He made several spectacular catches during each practice in the Alamodome -- where the crowd roars even when he makes routine plays -- and runs a lap around the field high-fiving fans before going into the locker room.

Williams, an Odessa, Texas, native and University of Texas product, is a frequent target of fan criticism due to his poor production since being traded from the Detroit Lions during the 2008 season. He was booed during Sunday morning's practice when he dropped a pass, although Pro Bowler Miles Austin didn't get similar treatment when he had a drop in the afternoon session.

"I bought a Ford F-250 2011. Everybody loves a new car but I also have a 2004 Navigator that's still running," Williams said about the perception that Bryant will soon be the starter. "So that's the way I feel."

There has been no previous friction between Williams and Bryant, whose arrival puts Williams' status as a starter in jeopardy. Williams has consistently praised Bryant publicly and made it clear that the rookie could come to him with any questions that he had.

Williams believes it's a veteran's duty to serve as a mentor to rookies. And he believes it's a rookie's duty to carry the veterans' shoulder pads to the locker room after practice.

"I don't believe in that at all," Bryant said. "We have a goal here. It's not about playing games. It's all about just trying to do the right thing and achieve our goal."

==========================================================================================================

This should be interesting to see how he reacts when he finds himself taped to the GOAL POST by the end of the week .... and left .... maybe .... overnight :D

he is no different than most coaches....he was just the stupid guy that got left without a chair when the music stopped.

edit: Thats a pretty broad brush you're using there. I don't think "most" coaches are like Kiffin. In fact, I would like to believe most coaches aren't like that. It's hard to stay on top, so I could see how tactics are used to keep up.

Hey guy's,
What did you hear, I heard somewhere that he went to USC and took the Offensive Co. position, then later I heard he took the USC Running Back coach job.

Which was it ?

IF it's the USC OC job, I have no problem with the guy , moving to a better job, although it could have been done better.

If it's for the same job as RB Coach, it was stupid of him.

He got the OC job at USC.

If he got the OC job, thats an upgrade, so I say Good for him, however, seeing no one bothered to talk to anyone involved with the Titans ahead of time, thats bad business.

Maybe I just don't get it, because I'm just a technician, but let's say another company comes calling to me about a job, even the main competition, why do they need to notify my current company first?

Please explain this to me.
