NFL preseason 2010-2011 Official discussion thread!

I think the McNabb to Rams stuff was all debunked late yesterday. At one point the Rams reportedly had even added a Safety to the deal.

unrelated...

What do you guys think of these?

Apparently Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross bought them in December (the company, not the devices) after a season long trial where season ticket holders were issued them or something. This year in addition to clips and stats they will have access to the NFL RedZone channel while you are in the stadium, and Ross is offering 5000 of the units per team (so 155k) in exchange for their promotion of the device.

NFL for the fantasy/ADD generation is here.

Excellent, so if the Dolphins are stinking it up that day thier fans can watch something else.
In my business that would be considered a "conflict of interest".

Problem is, the OWNER supplied them

The problem is there's a generation of people out there rooting teams they normally hate because they have a fantasy player on that team.

It's another way to get people to come to the games while many sit at home with their BBQ watching Sunday Ticket in HD, or one of the flavors of Red Zone channel and keeping an eye on their fantasy players/teams instead of paying ticket prices.

I hate Fantasy garbage.

Do you tell the players to play thier hearts out because they are playing a FANTASY game for you ?

Because you don't like it doesn't make it irrelevant, Fantasy Football is a billion dollar business.

Personally I think these are a short term solution for something that will come naturally anyways. We're just years from accessing the content this provides over our cell phones and other portable devices, this is just speeding up that adoption during a live sporting event. You can already see stuff like this with the Sprint NFL package.

There's also a lot more to it than the fantasy football angle -

I said I don't like it .... didn't say it wasn't big business .....

How about (another forum inserted here) if Fantasy is bug business, D* gives US the opportunity to decide if we want to participate in it or not ?

Such as giving us the opportunity to get our games in HD withOUT having to pay for the Fantasy stuff that I don't want but have to purchase addl. EVERY YEAR.

I didn't want to pull up the old College Football thread, but thought this might be of interest to some.

Finally the gluttony of BOWL game could be shrinking !

The International Bowl has officially folded. (that was the MAC and someone else).

We really don't need 30+ games anyways, hopefully otherr struggling bowls will fold as well.
I'm not wishing anyone out of work, but ya know what I mean.

THANK YOU!!! I do too!

How can ANY sports fan in the right mind actually hope a player from an opposing team do WELL against YOUR OWN TEAM??!! That goes against everything that is natural about rooting for your team!

How can you draft a player from a team YOU HATE and hope he does well knowing that IF he does well, the team might win AND lessen your teams chances of advancing to playoff possibility??!! Sacrilege!!!

I'm with you! People care more about their FANTASY team than the real thing these days.

And here I thought he lost weight during the offseason.

Wasn't he LISTED at 260 lbs. last year?? :p

He was previously hyped up by handlers as being in great shape, then tried to avoid that reporter when he didnt even stop his car to answer questions (even while answering them) and it was previously reported he was 271.

Looks like perhaps there was an attempt to win over some of the sceptics that this season will be any different than the last. Instead the Raiders are going to give him another go and wait until there is a salary cap to penalize them for his release rather than part ways now.
