NFL 2009-10 Season

Could NOT have said it better myself!!

Think Cable is a distraction to Raiders? Think again

The apocalypse is near, the haters sing with glee.

Raider Nation continues to crumble from within, they mockingly chant.

This whole Tom Cable-Randy Hanson Wrangle in Wine Country is a mammoth distraction, they recite with ear-to-ear grins. It will retard the growth of a promising young team.

Fairly reasonable claims, right? Except it isn't that big of a disruption, and it won't stunt said development.

In fact, Cable's potential legal woes are working just the opposite. And you need not have been at the team's Napa training camp facility this week to hear players greet the coach with "Cable, bumaye." Because keep in mind, this is not Mike Ditka vs. Buddy Ryan for the heart and soul of the 1985 Chicago Bears. Far from it. While that feud split those Monsters of the Midway's roster in half, you'd have a hard time finding a Raider who would take a bullet for Hanson.

In fact, you'd have a tough time finding a Raider who actually favored him, despite his feud with the less-than-liked Lane Kiffin last season.

Then there's this: Because Al Davis sided with Hanson then, it gave the perception Hanson was a mole for the owner, especially after he was given a promotion to assistant defensive backs coach and inherited by Cable. When Hanson spoke out of turn, it did not fly.

This is not to advocate coach-on-coach violence or breaking someone's jaw when they get mouthy. But this is football. A game based on hitting. The more violent, the better.

Tom Flores, the only Raiders coach with two Super Bowl victories, told me the whole situation was "suspicious." Hanson waited two weeks to return to the hospital and cooperate with the police, reportedly after turning down Davis' three options: accept Cable's demotion to film duties, join the team's scouting department or be paid to sit at home. He could not retain his coaching position, though.

"Well, this is not the first altercation (in football), if it was one at all," Flores said. "Baseball, they clear the benches and they fight all the time. (In hockey) they let them fight." What stinks worse than the Raiders' 24-72 record since 2003 is a superior beating on an underling ... allegedly.

"Whether it's blown out of proportion or not, the team should be galvanized," said Jim Plunkett, the Raiders' only two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

"They've gone through a lot of losing (and) they get paid to do a job. So (they should) go out there and do it ... with a lot of pride and enthusiasm and find ways to win. It doesn't have to be pretty. Claw. Fight. Scratch. Get the job done, any way you can." Strange as it sounds, the Raiders' biggest worry is not any legal ramifications that might include Cable being led off the practice field in handcuffs — the organization has enough money to lawyer up and delay things until Davis decides to cede power, which will never happen, if you catch my drift. No, the Raiders should fear tough cop NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell swooping down and dropping a suspension on Cable.

That, Raider Nation, would be about the only thing that would distract your favorite team.

So how does any of that make the assault on Hanson go away, not a felony, etc? Dude has still got some punishment coming to him, there have been no leaks saying 'nothing happened, it's all lies' from the organization that has more leaks than some ships on the sea floor (which is why so many versions of the story popped up so quickly).

Like I said before, the Raiders angle will be blackmail or something borderline irrelevant to discredit him in general, it doesn't make what Cable did right. Distraction or not when the guy misses games because of it, it will be a detriment. Raiders are just being the Raiders.

The 'they fight in other sports' thing is funny, and throwing the word allegedly in there. First time ive seen anyone refute any of it but the attacker. What's Cable going to say when the police interview him (they announced it this week), tell them 'it was nothing... just the chair thing, the cabinet thing, the choking thing, the IM GOING TO KILL YOU, IM GOING TO KILL YOU thing, you know, nothing' ? Maybe he'll say 'dude, it happens in baseball and hockey'.

I like how they wrap it up at the end... it's no big deal, just have to worry about being punished for the crime committed, that's all!

The Raiders angle? LOL! To me, you either sound like you were actually there and know all the facts....or you know ALL of the "unnamed sources". Funny how you gave me alot of flack in the Stallworth thread about assumptions and "could have" scenarios. You sort of doing the same thing...without all the facts. WAIT till THE FACTS come out.....not knee jerk due to "unnamed sources".

OH and by the way, the story had NOTHING to do with whether something happened or not....it was to tell all the Raider Haters that are foaming at the mouth.....the team is not tearing at the seams.

The fact is that something happened, and Cable is the only one, including unidentified sources, to have said nothing happened.

How's he going to spin it his direct quote of "nothing happened" into however his lawyers decide to characterize the attack, is the fact I can't wait to see 'come out'.

ALSO fact, there are a few stories of MIGHT have happened....and their YOU or I know what really happened....I do not deny SOMETHING happened...never have. But YOU do not know what happened...and ANY theories are nothing but assumptions. Again, wait till ALL the facts come out.

From PFT:

Paging Marvin Harrison.

A league source tells us that Cowboys receiver Roy Williams suffered a broken collarbone during his Thursday night collision with cornerback Orlando Scandrick.

Typically, a broken collarbone requires a healing period of six to eight weeks.

Paging Marvin Harrison.

The injury came as the Cowboys practiced without shoulder pads. Per the source, Scandrick and Williams simply ran into each other.

Paging Marvin Harrison.

edit: a followup...

A source with knowledge of the situation tells us that X-rays on the collarbone of Cowboys receiver Roy Williams were unexpectedly negative.

Multiple sources tell us that the initial diagnosis was a broken collarbone. One source tells us that Williams himself told multiple teammates that the collarbone was broken.

For now, Williams has gone home for the evening. He'll ice the area, and the team is expected to conduct an MRI on Friday.

We apologize for jumping the gun on this one. We assumed (ass-you-me) that the information was based on an X-ray, and it's our fault for not ensuring the proper degree of clarity.

So it's good news for Williams and the Cowboys.

Unless the MRI shows a break.

The Broncos have suspended Marshall for conduct detrimental to the team.

Duration TBD, but teams can only suspend a player for up to 4 games.

The Cowboys arent going to be forced to move their video board... but the do-over rules have been tweaked (before when there was some kind of do-over, the play clock was not reset. In theory... someone could just doink the ball off the board to run out the clock).

1. If a ball in play strikes a video board, guide wire, sky cam, or any other object, the ball will be dead immediately, and the down will be replayed at the previous spot.

2. If there is not an on-field ruling that the ball struck an object, the Replay Assistant is empowered to initiate a booth review, including if the event occurs prior to the two-minute warning. If, prior to the two-minute warning, no booth review is initiated by the Replay Assistant, a coach's challenge is permitted under the customary procedures for such a challenge.

3. In the event the down is replayed: (a) The game clock will be reset to the time remaining when the snap occurred. (b) All penalties will be disregarded, except for personal fouls which will be administered prior to replaying the down.

So much for all those that stated MORE people do no not like the Vick deal. Got a STANDING OVATION last night.:haha:haha:haha

Ya, local news didnt cover that part at all, they just had some footage of some screaming activist outside the stadium.

It's always different when he's 'your guy' - fans (not the kind that post here) are fickle, generally.

I did not know that the NFL Network Blacked out PRE SEASON games in your area.

Guess I'll turn the antenna the other way and see if it's available.

Well, I guess the NFL Network is the only place for the game.

Oh well, I'll go do other things.

Favre. TO has been pretty quiet, and Vick is just getting started. Only Vick stuff I hate hearing about is all the activism. Just different groups trying to stay relevent by making it into the news after latching on to cause after cause (Jesse Jackson, NAACP, im looking at you).

Favre is just some old guy who doesn't know when to quit at this point to me... will be really anticlimactic when he takes a shot week 3 and is done for the season.

"Yessss!! My toe is healed!!," Owens wrote. "I'm sittin n charlotte airport on layover headed 2 dallas @ CPK! Tht's california pizza kitchen if u dn't kno!"
After breaking down his love for the barbeque chicken pizza, Owens joked that he was on his way to Dallas to help out the Cowboys until Roy Williams gets better.
