NFL 2009-10 Season

Fun tool, Steelers have a better shot than I'd expected, looks like Denver is eliminated unless Baltimore AND the Jets lose or Jets and a New England loss.

I could get the generator to work ..... if it 's suppose to do something.
Unless I'm just not understanding it.

What do they need to have happen ?

The way I understand it is this:

The Steelers need to win (obviously), and need two of Baltimore, Jets and Houston to lose.

Rey,
while I agree with you 1,000% about the rhythm the part, I think maybe the Colts took a lesson from the '07 Patriots.

The Pats went all out to go undefeated, and where did it get them? A big, fat L in the biggest game of the year.

It's almost as if the Colts are saying, "to hell with the undefeated season, we have bigger fish to fry". :)
Tedy Bruschi had this to say about the '07 Pats:

My question is: Rest for what? The playoffs?

The Colts already have a first-round bye. That is the time to rest.

There aren't many times in your life when you have a chance to do something that has never been done before. When you are faced with a challenge like that, my feeling is that you embrace it and see if you've got what it takes to conquer it.

That's the way we felt in New England. And yes, we lost the Super Bowl, but let me be clear: We lost the Super Bowl because the New York Giants played better than we did that day. It was not because we were tired and needed more rest.

[ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nfl/columns/story?columnist=bruschi_tedy&id=4775238"]The Indianapolis Colts chose to rest instead of go for history - ESPN Boston[/ame]

The Colts players said the right things after the game but you could see the disappointment on their faces on the sidelines. It seemed clear to me that they wanted to go for it.

At least once the "resting" backfired on them (I think it was '05).

One other aspect that bothered me about this is the impact this had on the playoff race, with the Jets essentially handed this game.

The one bright spot for Colts fans though: The performance of the team after Manning's departure should lock up another MVP award for him.....

Going undefeated had zero, nothing absolutely nada to do with them losing that Superbowl.

Tomase, Samuel and Kaczur were 3 pretty solid reasons for that loss. That and the Giants playing the absolute game of their life.

At Least the Pats had the guts to go for it all. I bet this morning the Players have zero respect for Caldwell and his puppet-master naPolian.

Oh and speaking of the 2007 giants.

The Colts owe nothing to no one. All it takes is ONE HIT to Manning and Super Bowl chances are HISTORY!!! The ONLY objective is to win the Super Bowl. I would MUCH rather did what they did yesterday than take a chance of getting Peyton Manning injured.

...Having secure the home field THROUGHTOUT the playoffs, they did the right thing! Going undefeated is an extra cherry on the sundae.

And with ALL the guts, did going undefeated HELP them or improved their chances to winning a Super Bowl? Does Going undefeated assurred a Super Bowl win? So far, it's a 50-50 deal.

I will to take that bet.....I bet they are DISSAPPOINTED they lost....but when they win the Super Bowl....all that crap will be forgotten.

There is no extra bonus to go undefeated....there sure as sh** a nice bonus to win the Super Bowl! Last bonus was almost $50,000 for the winner and approx. $30,000 for the loser...

....where is there a bonus for going undefeated?

Nope, see this on NFL.COM. I got my info there.

Playoff Picture 2009

It has now been correctly updated:

Denver: They currently hold down the No. 5 seed but don't control their own destiny. Broncos would lose common opponents tiebreaker to Jets and head-to-head to Baltimore if all three teams are tied after Week 17.

Jets: Jets clinch playoff berth with win in Week 17.

Ravens: If they win, they're in. While they would lose common opponents tiebreaker to Jets in three-way tie with New York and Denver, they would own head-to-head tiebreaker over Broncos.

Texans: Texans have to win to have a chance, but they need at least two 8-7 teams ahead of them to lose because of their inferior conference record.

And then the same thing applies to the Steelers, but they need even more people to lose - Defending champs not going away without a fight. Because of their 5-6 conference mark, they'll need to win and get some help to leap into one of the wild-card spots.

Jags and Dolphins: need a miracle

Agree with what Teddy said 100%.

Look, I get winning the Super Bowl is the bottom line, but in the grand scheme of things, this team had the opportunity to go down in history as THE greatest team ever. (If they went undefeated and won the Super Bowl).

As for a season ending injury to Peyton, can anyone even recall Peyton EVER missing game time before due to injury? Seriously, this dude is Ironman-lite. Peyton has a better chance in injuring himself on his own time, outside of the football field than on it.

As for rest, Teddy nailed it. They have a first round bye. Rest then.

i disagree :D while i do agree they owe nothing to no one i strongly disagree with this move by the indy coach. peyton hadn't been sacked in i don't know exactly how many drop backs but it's been awhile. the colts have been in this position before and they've made the same decision and it never works for them. you need to keep that offense in rhythm rolling into the playoffs. they already have a bye. too much time off is not a good thing imo. i also gathered from the starters that indy pulled out including manning that they were not happy at all with this decision. don't doubt that this may come back and bite caldwell in the ass.
I agree with Hart that going 18-0 had nothing to do with the pats losing the SB. the giants were simply the more physical team that night. people forget that the pats came real close to pulling it off (19-0);)

If you think Peyton wants to win solely for a "bonus", you're mistaken. Manning is the most competitive athlete next to Michael Jordan that I've ever seen. He wants to win every single game.

when you love the game and respect the history of it as some of them do, it does mean a lot. you are looking at it from the monetary side of it. ;)

:up:up it's nice to still see this type of player in the NFL. Favre is the same. i don't like that guy :D but i have to give it to him for being such a high competitor.

Listen...NO ONE knows his players better than he does....no one. He has YET not make ANY mistakes...NOW, suddenly, the coach that has the lead the team with the best record in the NFL going be questioned and best yet, questioned for his guts?! (not you Rey, others ;))

The offense is fine. Tell me...honestly, does this one loss with the 3rd string in against the Jets really doubt that they cannot win the Super Bowl....?! Not me....

Geez...is THAT what you got out of my statement??!! I am saying there is no OTHER reason to play team sports OTHER than to win a championship. Going undefeated is like finding a $20 dollar bill on the ground when you have cash in your pocket....it's NICE, but you didn't need it at the time.

i hear ya :) and yes until now caldwell had done everything right. especially being a rookie head coach. i hope you're right. but i think you would agree that they better at least make it to the super bowl because if not they will question his decision on DEC 27th. right or wrong you know that's whats going to happen. it would be the same if he would've gone for 16-0 and they lose in the playoffs,he would be criticized for playing the starters when it wasn't needed. wouldn't want to be in his shoes

i need it $ :p:D lol.

Noooo.....again, I am looking at it as a CHAMPIONSHIP side to it. You do NOT need to go undefeated to win a championship. You are NOT assurred a championship by going undefeated. By playing you starters when you have ALREADY locked up homefield throughout, you take the chance of an injury to a star or franchise player....either one that can kill your chance of winning the champsionship or worse yet....career threating. Do you wanna take that kinda chance just because you wanna go undefeated??!! Really..... I wanna win MULTIPLE championships....not just one.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Going undefeated is NOT like finding a $20 bill on the ground. Ask Peyton how much he would've valued the historic feat if it happened. Ask the '72 Dolphins how much they cherish that accomplishment. Ask Michael Irvin why he would trade away 3 of his Super Bowl Rings for 1 undefeated season if granted that wish. The accomplishment sticks out among the laundry list of accomplishments in NFL History. It's the pinnacle of accomplishments as a team. Perfection is something a lot of teams/athletes strive for, but most never achieve. Going undefeated and winning is a higher honor than just winning a Super Bowl. A different team wins the Super Bowl every year. Teams don't go undefeated every year though.

If that's true, why do the '72 Dolphins celebrate every year when the last undefeated team falls?? The Colts had an excellent opportunity to make history and passed on it. If they end up losing their first playoff game (like they did after resting in '05) the fans will remember back to yesterday.....
