What happened to the good old days of natural green grass. Maryland has dug up the grass at the stadium and is going with synthetic that is apparently going to be black.

I spent a few years near College Park, and I know it can be pretty muggy there in August and September. Good luck with that black turf. Hope nobody dies of heat stroke.

Also thought they made a stipulation that they couldn't make the grass the same color as the teams jerseys.

The UND athletic department received a package Wednesday that drew a few chuckles — at the expense of the NCAA.
The package included the 2011 NCAA Division I football championship banner intended for North Dakota State, which claimed the title in January with a win against Sam Houston State in Frisco, Texas.
The NCAA shipped the championship banner with good intentions but sent it to UND — North Dakota State’s biggest rival.
The package was addressed to Mr. Brian Faison, Athletics Director, North Dakota State University, Hyslop Sports Center, Grand Forks, N.D.
UND athletic department officials were amused by the NCAA mix up. And the timing of the delivery couldn’t have been more ironic.

“I’ll call (NDSU athletic director) Gene Taylor and tell him it’s here,” said Faison, who spent much of the morning talking with regional media regarding Tuesday’s overwhelming statewide vote to retire the controversial Fighting Sioux nickname and logo — which the NCAA deemed “hostile and abusive.”

The letter accompanying the banner read:

“Dear Mr. Faison:
“Enclosed find your 2011 championship banner that hung in the NCAA Hall of Champions. I hope your team, faculty, staff and students can now enjoy it as much as our visitors did.”
The letter was signed by Kelly Dodds, the assistant director of the Hall of Champions and Conference Center.

Not sure about the field color, but the clause of jersey's being the same color was a Mountain West rule that was made when Boise St. switched to that conference.

Nope, a conference rule is completely different than an NCAA rule. A conference rule only affects conference games. For example, while Boise St. couldn't wear blue uniforms at home against MWC teams, they were free to do so against anyone else.

btw, the NCAA has no rule against colored turf.

As is often the case, whenever something odd occurs, people try to think of a reason behind it, and the reason that has popped up to explain why only one Division I school has a turf colored anything but green is the “fact” that the NCAA has banned having turf colored anything but green, but the rule only came about after Boise State already did their turf, so rather than cause a big scene making them change it, the NCAA decided instead to let them keep their turf (grandfather them in, essentially) and say no one else can do it.
That’s not the case.
There is no NCAA rule saying what color turfs have to be, the other schools just like the color green.

The NFL did ban non-green fields last year, so that may be were the confusion comes from.

Consensus reached on 4-team playoff

Sources told ESPN.com that under the recommended model, four participating teams would be selected by a committee, which would consider certain criteria such as conference championships and strength of schedule.
The two national semifinal games would be played within the existing BCS bowl games (Fiesta, Orange, Rose and Sugar) on a rotating basis, with the host sites being predetermined before each season. The national championship game would be offered to the highest bidding city...The commissioners' consensus must be approved by the BCS presidential oversight committee, which meets June 26 in Washington, D.C. If approved, the four-team playoff would replace the current BCS system, which has been in place since 1998.

+1 I think they should of started with 8 instead of 4 imo

Anything more than 4 right now, would require a major overhaul of the FBS. The bowls still hold too much power to allow that, in addition you don't want the season to go longer than it is now. Taking back News Years Day is a big step I think needs to happen now. I also think moving the major bowls to ESPN was a mistake too. They should keep all the News Year Day bowls on OTA including the eventual title game and no more of this starting games at 8-8:30 Central so they can get it in prime time on both coasts.

It's a start, but I'm sure the arguments will continue on just what 4 teams will be chosen.

It should be top four period IMO. Obviously someone has to choose those top four, but in most seasons, that is fairly obvious. The farther down the line you go, the less of an argument there is for being included. Four, again IMO, is a goop number to use. It includes the teams that have the most legitimate arguments, and doesnt add "50" more games to stretch it all out.
