NCAA Football 2008-09 Season

I have the Vols winning, 31-10 tonight.
I'm hoping you're right. You just never know with a new offensive coordinator. Tennessee does return the majority of their offensive line that only allowed four sacks all of last year, though. That definitely helps a first year starting QB and a first year OC.

South Carolina is not a top 25 team. Whoever votes for them should lose their credentials. South Carolina will be lucky to win 5 games this year, and no matter how bad Clemson looked the other night they will still hammer South Carolina, as they always do. The SEC is a strong conference, but South Carolina is not part of that equation.

Something interesting to think of:

This is the 10th year of the BCS, and Tennessee plays UCLA.

Little ironic, because back in the first year of the BCS, we were a few points away from seeing these teams in the Fiesta Bowl.

Instead, Tennessee had to play a lucky-as-hell Florida State team.

(Kinda like LSU in 2007- benefit from two teams losing- only they didn't capitalize on their fortune)

I wish the Vols had gotten ANYONE but the Seminoles that year.

At least Tennessee won the game. Of course I still hear Seminole fans talk about how they were down to their third string QB and things would have been different otherwise.

I would like to see KY in the top 25, but they started so low I doubt they will get there this week.

Well, I'm getting fired up to watch my Vols tonight. 30 mins and counting. I HOPE that it is not a game, but I'm sure we'll see some first game mistakes that will let it be close for longer than I would like to see.

I remember in 2001 Tennessee was just an SECCG win away from the MNC and got knocked out of the big game altogether. :D ;)

That turned out to be the worst-case scenario.

Thanks to LSU, we got stuck with a Nebraska team that:

Didn't win their own conference title

Didn't even PLAY in the Big 12 Championship Game

Had the worst Heisman Trophy winner ever (Others at least played ONE snap in the NFL)

Yet another reason I've always hated LSU.

From the overrated Glenn Dorsey (Chris Long or Laurinatis should have won some of those awards last year) to the fact that the Tigers NEVER wear home unis at Tiger Stadium and backing into TWO BCS title games, I've always had somewhat of a dislike for the Bayou Bengals.

That was a sad sad day. I was there and was really pissed!!! I've now watched the Vols football teams play 2 bowl games and 2 SEC Championship games in the GA Dome and still haven't seen us win a game (I didn't make it to the 97 Championship game).

HD, if Ohio State were to play Texas Tech or Missouri in a bowl game, would that be a tougher task than playing an SEC team?

Jeremy Maclin and Michael Crabtree are far scarier players than anyone in the SEC, and Chase Coffman is the best TE in college football, only to get screwed out of the Mackey Award for a USC guy with lesser numbers just because he's a Trojan.

it was his teammate and fellow TE martin rucker who got screwed. hopefully chase csn do it this year. he had a good game vs IL in the season opener, but then any one on the O side of the ball did. but a great game to be at!!! crowd was great. to bad they might not renew the series after next year.

Interesting that the Bruins are winning in a low-scoring game.

They used to be an offensive juggernaut- in 2005, they had Maurice Drew and a ridiculously potent attack, as well as the Cade McNown years.

UCLA is playing with a 3rd string QB. They don't have a lot of options. Frankly Tennessee is really laying down in this one. UCLA is supposed to one of the worst teams in the Pac 10 this year. If you can't beat them then I'd hate to face that SEC schedule.

I agree. When I think UCLA, I think offense.

I say it's the lack of talent.

Ainge and Meachem are gone, and all they have is a supposedly good RB.
