NCAA Football 2008-09 Season

The Tennessee offense didn't really surprise me. I knew it would be shaky with a new QB and coordinator. The really disappointing thing (other than going 1 for 5 on field goals), was the defense down the stretch. Norm Chow out coached John Chavis. I dread the SEC gauntlet if they don't turn things around.

I agree. When I think UCLA, I think offense.

When I think of UCLA, I think of their cheerleaders! :D

Beanie will be fine for the USC game, X Rays were negative and it is being reported that it is a toe injury, not the Ankle like us Buckeye fans feared.... thats what has bothered him in the past.
The Bucks still have plenty of capable backs to step in, some your freshman that want an oppertunity to make a good impression as well.
Running back is a position both OSU and USC have a pretty good stable of.
That said, we would like to have Beanie healthy this year .

I would not consider USC to be a STRONG favorite.

Jimbo

I am still scared of this injury Jimbo. Supposedly Tressel will give us more details on the extent of this injury when he speaks to the media this afternoon.

Also, I realize we have depth at the RB position, but there is simply no replacing one of the best players in all of college football and a Heisman Trophy candidate in Beanie Wells. If he's not full strength, I fear the game against USC at LA Memorial Coliseum.

...Yet another reason I've always hated LSU.

From the overrated Glenn Dorsey (Chris Long or Laurinatis should have won some of those awards last year) to the fact that the Tigers NEVER wear home unis at Tiger Stadium and backing into TWO BCS title games, I've always had somewhat of a dislike for the Bayou Bengals.

"Overrated" Glenn Dorsey's awards and honors:

2x First-team All-SEC (2006-2007)
2x First-team All-American (2006-2007)
SEC Defensive Player of the Year (2007)
Lombardi Award (2007)
Outland Trophy (2007)
Bronko Nagurski Trophy (2007)
Lott Trophy (2007)

I guess the people responsible for handing out these awards must not have followed Dorsey's college career as closely as you did. Even knowledgeable tOSU and Virginia fans know you're wrong on that one.

The following is a photo of last year's home game against Middle Tennessee:

Last year's home game against Louisiana Tech:

9/23/06 home game against Tulane.

10/22/06 home game against Fresno St.:

...and many, many more where those came from. I'm assuming by "home unis" you mean dark jerseys. Never say never. :D

In 2007, granted LSU was lucky to get in the BCS, but other teams "backed out" as much as you say LSU "backed in."

In 2003, LSU was one of 3 major teams with only 1 loss (while having played in a conference championship to boot), and at the end of the regular season they were ranked #2 in all of the polls, including the AP and BCS. Oklahoma (that year possibly the greatest team of all time according to Kirk Herbstreit and others, thus accounting for their inflated BCS rankings) had just gotten destroyed by Kansas St., the worst loss of all three teams. If anything, they didn't belong in the MNC.

Your hatred of LSU (or "dislike" - you weren't quite clear on that point) seems misguided. Maybe it's driven by something else and you just aren't thinking straight? ;)

OU knew they didn't have to beat K-State to get to the BCS. They had done everything that was necessary to get to the title game at that point. And after a slow start, OU still came within one play of tying the game at the end. And it was at the Sugar Bowl - a home game for LSU. I'd like to have that game over on a neutral field.

I thought you might chime in.

TN will be very lucky to be 7-5 this year after that performance last night. I see losses to UCLA (obviously), FL, GA, Auburn, Bama, with the potential to lose to SC and or KY...

Sad day on Rocky Top, this might actually be what gets Fulmer thrown out of Kvill along with his whole staff.

You never know with the Vols. It was the first game. After the next game or two, maybe you can make that call.

Is it possible that the voters will move USC up in the rankings to try and set up a 1 vs. 2 matchup with the Buckeyes?

I have this feeling that Georgia may be dropped from the top of the rankings, for we all know the voters are in love with the Trojans and want to set up a 1/2 matchup.
USC surpassed Georgia in the coaches' poll and is the new #1. Georgia is #2, though, so it sets up a #1 vs. #3 matchup. AP poll hasn't been released, yet.

Edit: USC is #1 in the AP Poll, too with Georgia #2 and Ohio State #3.

That sounds about right to me. USC is a machine. Georgia is good, but overrated. Their injuries will derail whatever chances they had at a NC.

I had this one right.

I had a feeling that voters were going to do this.

College football AP voters fawn over USC like Sandra fawns over Henrik Lundqvist.

The "Herby Factor" rears it's ugly head already.

Georgia may be overrated, but if Georgia was/is the best team by the pollsters coming into the season what changed.

Georgia did what it was suppose to do, beat up a cupcake. Claiming that USC deserve more credit for Virginia is nuts. We already knew Georgia was playing a cupcake, ditto Ohio State, and didn't run up the score.
But you say hey USC was awesome against Virginia, true, but does anyone know how good Virginia is.
What if Virginia sucks, will they same pollsters remember that and dock USC for winning a game that against bad team. Not Likely.
Just another reason why the games may be interesting, College Football's system is a joke.
