NCAA Football 2008-09 Season

When your starters are in the game, and you're up by 6 touchdowns, and you're throwing at the end zone in the 4th quarter....as in the Florida-South Carolina game yesterday...that's what I'm referring to. The 21 points off of 3 turnovers in a 2 minute period wasn't them running up the score. Starters playing with a 5 or 6 touchdown lead in the 4th quarter, that's running up the score. Take Alabama-Mississippi State last night. Saban put in the entire 2nd string offense with 8 minutes to play in the game. They kept the ball the entire final 8 minutes, and ran the clock out. Mississippi State couldn't have stopped them from scoring, yet they didn't feel the need to throw for the end zone. I understand some teams quit, and that's their problem. And no one's gonna jump off a rooftop if you score an extra touchdown or two, but c'mon. Win with class, and lose graciously. On a brighter note, someone informed the coaches Texas won the Oklahoma game a couple of months ago...they put Texas ahead of Oklahoma this week.

Uh, the Bowl games are not until Jan. for the most part, you must mean Jan 8th ...

I think he meant after the teams are picked, not until the games are played

Maybe he meant after all the conference championships are over? What the heck did you mean Sabres?

I meant that the bet loser has to put up the other avatar unril December 8th, the day after we find out who plays in which bowl game.

Which brings up another question about running up the score - how do you stop your 3rd string from scoring? These kids wait their whole careers for a few snaps, and what do you tell them? Take a knee? Like somebody else here said - sometimes the other team just quits.

I agree, by the third and fourth quater of the FLA vs SC game FLA had players in the game that even the play-by-play guys had no idea who they were. Whos going to tell these guys who finnaly get their shot on the field to play half--speed? Sure they kept tim in, (but hes in the running for a certain trophy and needs all the time he can get to prove why he deserves it)

So when Florida was up 42-6 in the 4th quarter, and the starting quarterback throws a touchdown pass to a starting tight end, that's your idea of not running up the score...?

Lets look at the 3rd and 4th qtr..

First score of the 3rd Harvin has an 80 yard run for a TD

2nd score Demps runs for 38 yards for a TD

Third score a 5yard pass to Hernedez for a TD. (First and Goal at the 5, what did you expect the gators to do? Field goal or TD either way they were assured to score)

Fourth Score Rainy ran for a TD (after rushing 39 yards to get FLA on the 3 yard line)(back up kicker gets extra point)

Please tell me in which of those 4 second half scores could of been prevented by the gators themselves?

At the time, OSU held a 31-10 lead—comfortable, perhaps, but surely not insurmountable. The next play, Terrelle Pryor threw a touchdown pass. Ware's reaction? "Are they still trying to run out the clock now?"

Remember, Troy held a 31-10 lead last night and couldn't hold on to it.

THAT is why tOSU did what they did.

First off, I'm not condemning Florida for playing the game. If they don't run the score up, they get penalized by the voters who might vote Oklahoma ahead of them. So Meyer is doing what he needs to do in an imperfect situation. The problem is the voters reward teams for meaningless points. Meyer wouldn't be a good coach if he didn't give his team the best chance to succeed, and part of success is your ranking. It helps in recruiting when you score a bunch of points. But if you honestly believe that starting offenses with a 5 touchdown lead throwing at the end zone couldn't have been prevented, you don't understand what we're discussing.

The play you keep bringing up, FLA started at the 40 ran and passed to get to the 5yard line. Once they were on the 5 what should they of done?

Troy man handled LSU the first half, should they of took out their starting offense? Hell they kept them in and look what happend. FLA only scored 2 TDS per qtr in the second half, they were eating the clock as much as they can, they couldnt help that Harvin had his way with an 80 yard run for a TD, or demps ran 38 yards... SC could not stop the run, FLA trying to rush instead their normal 30+ yard pass's just happened to outrun SCs Defense.

Tim had to stay in, hes got that trophy to worry about. Brantly did play a few snaps though. (Tim only played 4seconds in the 4th qtr)

Here are the 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award.

I know who 9 of the 10 are, but I've never heard of Tyrell Fenroy.]

BTW, I am picking Javon Ringer.

No, Tebow didn't have to stay in. He'd already staked his claim. And if he beats Bama, he'll win the Heisman again. And it's a moot point. You see nothing unsportsmanlike in playing starters with a 5 touchdown lead in the 4th quarter, and nothing I will ever say will convince you that your favorite team did anything other than play football.

But don't bring up Troy. It was Troy. Leading LSU. No one really believed LSU was going to just let Troy come into Tiger Stadium and blow them out, did they? 31-3 leads against vastly more talented teams aren't that hard to blow. It took LSU 35 minutes into the game to get over the Bama hangover. It took Bama almost a quarter and a half to get over the LSU hangover. If Troy had played LSU when the game was originally scheduled earlier in the year, the game would have gone about the same as the LSU-Tulane game did.

Remember who the coach of the losing team was. An onside kick in that situation would be OK. Spurrier's never showed any class throughout his career why should he be given any mercy when his team is getting whipped? Karma's a bitch as they say.

Teabow played only 1 play in the 4th qtr. a simple 5 yard pass.

They didnt do anything but play football. Just like when USC ran up on Washinton. Its just football. Some teams just dominate others, aside from downing it everytime you get the ball what more do you expect? They only scored 2 tds in the 4th and 2 in the 3rd.. They could of scored way more.

The 4th quater was nothing but brantley and Rainey.. Rushing.. Aside from the first play of the qtr with a 5 yard pass from teabow.

Cant say I disagree with the current rankings... Its really going to shake things up though if TT loses to OK who goes where?

Texas lost to TT, but beat OK. How far does TT Drop? Do they get disqualified for the NC? They would only be a one-loss team.

The Big12 is a beast this year, id say as a whole better then the SEC this year. I do beleive however the top two in the SEC can beat the top 2 in the big12, But overall The Big 12 has more stacked teams then the SEC this year.
