NCAA Football 2008-09 Season

But here's the thing. A college football playoff would make tons of money! I'm not even saying get rid of the bowl games. If people want to waste their time at the Motor City Bowl let them. It's a free country. All I'm saying is why not make the postseason for the top teams meaningful?

I'm pulling for Bama.

I'm sick of all this Tebow/Urban Mayer worship.

One of the best coaches in the league, and certainly one of the best overall QBS, He has improved his passing game, each and every time he plays. He knows when to hold it, when to throw, when to run. He has how many interceptions? How many Rushing yards? How many Passing? How many TDS? Not many other QBS can claim that. He is without a doubt one of the top 3 QBS in College ball today, if not the number 1. He is also at least up there in the top 10 overall. (at least if he continues the rest of his college time like he has the last 2 years.)

Urban has made this team a force to be reckoned with, after Steve left. Hes made this the best special teams "teams" in the league. On both the return and defense side of special teams. He has built a solid defense from a young group of players, and built an awesome offense with some older and younger players.

Yes, they'd still make money. Heck, they might even make MORE money because of more games. But I think they run the risk of fixing something that isn't broken. Controversy is what America loves. We all love arguing over who the best teams are. That's part of the fun. Most fans love the chaos, because if you're a fan of any of the top 8 teams, you still hold hopes for your team. Decisive playoffs would change the regular season. It just would. Yesterdays game against LSU left me exhausted. Literally. On the edge of your seat, dying with every bad play, yelling at the tv over no-calls by the refs, bad calls by the refs, whatever...knowing that if they slipped up and lost, championship hopes were gone. One game, and it was over. It's like we have a 12 or 13 game playoff now. Every week is crucial. Look at Florida. If they were undefeated, they'd be number 1, and Alabama would be number 2. Not one time have I ever watched my favorite NFL teams in the regular season and felt that the seasons ultimate goal was gone, unless they were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. And that would be after several losses.

We could still argue about who's best. People do that in all sports. What we need is a playoff so that you don't get teams screwed like Auburn in 04 or have split NC's. The regular season is always going to be special. You think you wouldn't care if Alabama lost yesterday if there were a playoff? Not if you're a real fan. Are you saying that you wouldn't care about the Iron Bowl if there were a playoff? Rivalry games like that are what make college football great, and that will always be true. I just find it insulting that teams can play their guts out for 3 months in the regular season yet be denied an opportunity to even play for a NC because of what some computer says.

Well, yeah, I say I wouldnt care as much if Alabama had lost yesterday if there were a playoff. Alabama has shown it's a team that would be involved in any playoff this year. They would still be eligible to win a title. If they had lost yesterday, in today's BCS world, even if they beat Florida on December 6th, I don't think they would make the NC game. There are pros and cons to each. But how many teams would be enough? 8? 12? 16? They had to expand to 65 for the NCAA basketball tourney. It's been a good enough system with polls since the late 1800's.

And I'm not completely sure how the BCS formulas weigh against each other, but don't the coaches poll, the Harris poll, and the 6 computer polls each weigh 1/3rd? Humans still have 2/3's of the vote, don't they?

I agree with this point. I am ashamed to say, I have a bedroom door that felt the bad effects of this:mad: (to much beer:eek:, and no, hasnt happend before), but the plus 1 format (again) would cover this one loss in MOST cases.

Edit: anyone else notice that your middle finger knuckle sticks out a little farther and even when you pull the punch it still makes enough of an impact on a sub par door to cause a small hole? (yeah, I like college football) lol

Well, don't feel too bad. Back when Peyton Manning was at Tennessee, and I think it was his sophomore year, the first play of the game was an 80 yard touchdown pass, maybe to Joey Kent, I can't remember the receiver...my dad was holding the remote for the tv and threw it across the room, shattering it beyond repair. We still haven't let him live that down, and my mother was so pissed....we look back on it and laugh now, but my brother and I had to change channels on the front of the tv for weeks before Mom would let us buy a new remote!!

Advice. I wear a hat when I watch games. When things go poorly I can slam it against a table or throw it to vent but nothing gets busted.

Anders, if UNC wins their division, what opponent do you think they'd likely face in the ACC title game?
Man I really can't say. Wake Forest has the upper hand thanks to their win over Florida St. All they need to do is beat NC State and BC and they're in.

I think it's going to be UNC vs. Florida St.
That would a good matchup. The ACC had better hope that's what it is. With the CG in Tampa you kind of need a Florida team there to sell tickets. A UNC-Wake game would be great if they played in Charlotte. If they play in Tampa it could be another small gathering.

BC is 2-3 in the ACC, but they still control their own destiny.

The Eagles play the three teams that are ahead of them (Florida St., Wake Forest and Maryland) the next three weeks, and all of those teams have two conference losses.

Very, very unlikely that BC can pull that off, but just wanted to throw it out there.

That's true. I don't think BC can run the table either but they could make things interesting. Florida St had better hope they can at least beat Wake.

DAMN YOU IOWA HAWKEYES!!

DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!

Why so mad? If anything, this is a good thing. Now, there are two unbeaten teams in the running for a National Championship (Alabama and Texas Tech). With PSU losing, this now takes the debate out of whether or not to also consider them too.

As a college football fan, I think I would like to see the winner of the Big 12 and SEC play eachother in the BCS Title game. I can see that game being Texas Tech vs. Florida. (And yes, a 1 loss Florida team is better than an unbeaten PSU team. With PSU losing, thank God we don't have to have that debate.)

Agreed, The big10 this year has been horrid. When you have 4 MAC teams beating big10 teams that says alot.

I look forward to FLA vs TT, both have explosive offenses should be a very high scoring exciting game.

Oh man, do I have some stories! More than a few remotes, phones, glass beer mugs, and even a window have been destroyed due to my fanatic loyalty to the LSU Tigers (mixed with a little alcohol at times ). My wife and kids have actually stopped watching LSU games with me. I've gone completely out of my mind yelling at the TV, and turned around to see them staring at me like I just took a huge dump in the middle of the living room floor or something.

Not only have I senselessly damaged personal property, but also myself! Last season after LSU's second 3OT loss, a losing effort against the Razorbacks that I thought knocked the Tigers out of contention for the MNC, I was so upset I aquired a lifetime souvenir of that season - a three inch scar on my stomach from a broken stair baluster. My family was staying in a rental cabin for Thanksgiving and I was pacing around in the dark late at night because I couldn't get that game out of my mind. I mistepped and fell down a flight of stairs and went completely through the balusters on the landing midway down. I found a piece of one of the balusters sticking out of my gut (good thing for that extra fat). I was still a little intoxicated, which no doubt didn't help my balance, but at least it dulled the pain.

I have many, many, stories besides that. But hey, on the other hand, I'm a very fun guy to be around when they win! :D

I've tried that too. Lost some pretty nice hats. :(
