NCAA Football 2008-09 Season

Boise State and Utah will go undefeated, but does that mean the deserve to be in the top 10.
A look at thier schedules shows them not playing anyone ...
one of them at least played a ranked team somewhere along the way.

It will be one hell of an SEC CG want it :)

At least the SEC likes to settle their conference championship on the field, and not in some faux style poll like the crappy BCS system... Big 12 to. More conferences need to get a CG to settle it on the field.

If Oklahoma makes it to the championship game, and gets obliterated again in a BCS bowl, do you think the voters will finally learn and penalize them next year like they did Ohio State and even Penn State a little bit this year?

If its OK vs FLA OK would get stomped. Penn State vs FLA Penn would be destroyed.. Texas Tech is the only one I am worried about watching them the last few games really has impressed me. That would be a great game to watch, which is why I am pulling for OK to win :)

They need to do AWAY with the stupid CCG's all together ... they are unnessasary and are only there for a way to make more money, thats it.

Get rid of them and everyone 's last game of the year is the last w/e of NOVEMBER and we can then get down to really finding out who's best with a playoff that would end on New Years DAY.

Why you dont like the best team being determined by who wins on the field? You prefer a BCS style system? The CG is the closet we get to a playoff style system. At least the conferences with a CG game, their is never any doubt who was the best team. They settle it on the field. They dont have to rely on other methods to see which of the two one loss teams deserves the conference title.

Settle it on the field, which is why the Conference CG is completely needed, and important. The non-sense about them being only about money is just that. Non-sense. Sure they do make money, as its an extra game, but the biggest part about them is knowing WHO was the top of your conference.

I agree!

To those that want to do away with conference championship games, who would you give it to assuming FLA and Bama both win out? Or consider if both were undefeated at this point and win out? The games are about money, sure. They are also essential in conferences with this much talent and all the teams dont play each other. There is a very good chance year in and year out that more than one team could make a legitimate claim for the title. This game settles it.

FLA would have to play 11 Conference games to ensure they play everyone. To see who the winner truly is. With a CCG they only have to play their division and then beat the winner of the other division to prove who is the true talent of the SEC.

While I am all for a playoff of some sort, thats kind of overkill. That would add way to many games for some teams. Also what would that do to bowls for teams that dont make it?

I think the plus 1 format is the easiest to implement and would clear up nearly any question about who deserves the title. Usually there arent more than 2, sometimes 3 that can actually claim to deserve it. Adding a fourth covers all of them and adds the next best team. Win, win.

A playoff system would ruin college football. It's the best sport in the world. Why change anything? It has the most meaningful regular season of any sport. Every week, teams need to come out and win if they want a shot at a title. Losses are huge. The NFL has a playoff, and teams with 6, 7, or 8 losses get into the postseason. I don't care to see college teams with 3 losses get into a playoff and have a chance at a title. If you don't compete every week like this is the most important game of the season, you shouldn't play for a championship in college football.

Well, the way it is now, they also play some western conference foes every year.

If we had it where they played everyone in the conference, like you said that is 11 games. Doesnt leave much space for OOC games, and Florida traditionally has some great ones.

Thats why I think a plus 1 is the best solution. Doesnt take anything away from the regular seasons importance (you still have to be in the top 4), and clears up any questions on who deserves to play for the title on close years.

It also wouldnt take away the traditional bowl format we have now.

I am opposed to a full scale playoff system also because of the reasons you gave

You missed my point ENTIRELY.

IF they get rid of the CCG's they can have a playoff and everyone plays the same amount of games ...
