If you had 16 teams, why have a bye ?
1-16, 2-15, 3-14 and so forth, like the basketball tournament does.

When you get large numbers like that it would take longer mainly because you can only have 1 game a week per team, unlike basketball.

If you went 16, it would seriously diminish the regular season.

An argument could be made for the power teams at an even lower number.

16 teams will take 4 weeks 10 teams will take 4 weeks I'll let you figure it out:)

Jimbo. Your the one that's said you would be happy with top 10.

so every other division that does playoffs I guess it diminishes the regular season too

FCS (D-1AA) went from 20 to 24 teams this year...top 8 get a 1st round bye. Thats the goal for the teams...do good in regular season to get a bye in 1st round.
D2 does top 24 teams....again top 8 get byes in 1st round

True.
And the argument that it would take athletes away from school is complete BS.
Does that mean student athletes at FCS and DII schools are not as important as DI???BS again!!

The problem is the Bowl system and bowl alliances. They still have enough money and power to block an expanded playoff system. That and the Rose Bowl, pac 12 and big ten not wanting to give up their exclusive game in pasendena.

and that is what the supporters of the BS game have been able to sell up to now and its the same boatload of BS then as well. Like playing Buffalo and teams of that ilk doesn't diminish tOSU's schedule already, huh? Cut the MAC teams from the schedule and maybe then you can start the diminish talk, but till then, don't be such a hypocrite.

It is funny that the conferences who complain the most about being left out of the title game, (because of SEC bias...) are the ones that are also the most against a playoff system where they would have to prove themselves on the field.. They seem to not want to have to prove they are worthy but rather just be handed the spot. Where as the SEC has been for a playoff for some time now. Wanting to prove itself on the field against any and all.

When it gets that big, yes. Who cares about most of the regular season games? You can drop several and still have a slot in the playoffs. Much like college basketball. Most don't care until march.

For 1A, I think 4 teams takes care of damn near any argument that can be made for inclusion and keeps the regular season important and worth watching (cupcake games will exist either way)

We will see, but I don't think 4 is going to do it. Going to be too many 1 loss teams and it's still going to be a popularity contest as to who is more deserving of the last spot. I think 6 would do it and just give the top 2 a bye week.

Hey, I never said I was against it ...

Just think if you can have 2 or more losses and still know you'll get in the top 16, just makes it a playoff and the season doesn't mean as much anymore.

You must be a new guy ?

If you look at any of my post you'll see that I have been a proponent to GET a playoff going for years now ... awhile back Paul and I had a real good format for them to start with.

And don't give me the bs about the MAC, they are one of the conferences that ARE getting in currently. NIU last year and probably this year as well.

As for your Buffalo slam against Ohio State, how about when Chattanooga plays Bama ? No complaints there.

There are alot of sec teams that are NOT top notch teams that would do no better in the Big Ten than they do in the sec.

Every top sec team also plays the scrubs, just like the Bucks do.

This is where I thing the top 8 would be the best place to start.

Thers usually not much difference between 5 and 8.

I like 8 or 10 .... I originally thought it would eventually go to 16 and it might, but I would be happy with top 10.
The 4 team can't start soon enough.

The problem with 16 is it would take too long to complete, then schools would be complaining that people would be missing too much time.
10 would take as long as 16 (3 rounds). And 3 weeks isn't too long. There's a longer gap now between the Conference Championships and the New Years Day bowl games.

Ya I dont understand the argument of taking to long.. Adding an extra 4 games for the final 2 teams when there is 40+ days off for some teams between there last game and the bowl game...

Especially when it's made by someone who used to complain the Big Ten took a longer break than the other conferences.

Since our season is a bust and we are about to get absolutely destroyed at home this weekend i started watching old games on youtube. Really enjoyed watching the 2007 BCS title game. I forgot how good Chris Leak really was and how absolutely dominating the gators were in that game. Just completely dismantled tOSU as if we were playing some FCS school... It was also great watching Tebow again but as the back up. Everyone not knowing what kind of super star he would turn into. Hearing the announcing talk about him and also Percy Harvins freshman year.

Think next ill watch the 2008 title game..

You could watch last week's game again and see that happen. :D

Take to long? No. The time frame could be kept the same easily.

But an extra four games for some i think is bordering on too much when they already play a 12 game regular season. Especially if it keeps an off site format.

Bring it all on campus and it makes more sense. Logistically and from a money standpoint (keeping them on neutral sites will make sure there would be empty seats with that many more games)

Still, i think four, six at most handles any issues. (I'd still prefer all that on campus)
