COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State and Virginia Tech have settled on dates for an upcoming home-and-home series after moving up the date for next year's meeting by two weeks. After receiving an offer from ESPN to play on national television and potentially in prime time, both schools agreed to move up the 2014 game at Ohio Stadium to Sept. 6 after it was originally slated for Sept. 20, it was announced Thursday.
The programs had previously agreed to move up the return game at Lane Stadium in 2015 to Labor Day night, moving that matchup three weeks earlier in the season as well to take advantage of an opportunity to have a broadcast showcase in front of a national audience on ESPN.
For both teams, the chance to claim a significant victory outside of the league with most of the country's attention on the two powerhouse programs was apparently too good to turn down, perhaps in particular for an Ohio State team that has had its schedule picked apart and is almost completely out of opportunities to impress voters on a big stage just past the midway point of this season.
That may not be much of an issue for the Buckeyes next year after they open with a neutral-site meeting with Navy in Baltimore and one week later now will face a measuring-stick game against the Hokies that will kick off either in the evening or at 3:30 p.m.
Ohio State was originally scheduled for a bye after the opener, but that off week was flipped to accommodate the swap with Virginia Tech.

Problem is, in the eyes of the voters, at least the current ones, they would look as them playing 1 big game Non Conference and thats it, regardless and it wouldn't really amount to much being the beginning of the season.

Buckeyes have had a good number of top teams they have played in the past 5-10 years and looking thru 2021 they have plenty more. (this year was an exception for some reason, I suppose they were expecting that Big team to be California, they were a top 10 team when the schedule was made.
At the time they had to choose between Cal and Stanford and at the time, Cal was the better team.

Looking forward they play :

2014 Va Tech, Cincy
2015 Va Tech
2016 Oklahoma
2017 Oklahoma
2018 North Carolina and TBA
2019 TCU, Cincy and TBA
2020 Oregon, Boston College
2021 Oregon, Boston College
2022 Texas
2023 Texas

Every one is a Home and Home except NC and TCU so far.

Correct but you said they gave up two bowls and the ACC Championship - you should have said gave up a "chance" to play for the ACC title. ;)
Technically they still could have played in it, as they were under no official sanctions. Once they won the coastal, they still had to inform the conference they weren't going to play in it. So yes, they did give it up.

Last night while watching the UK/Miss St game they said that UK has the 4th toughest schedule in the NCAA. I believe it. Seems every week they play a ranked team.

No they did not give the championship up - this means they won the game and they didn't play so noooo they just didn't play so they gave up the "chance to play". You are clearly not grasping the concept here. I understand exactly what you mean but that is not how it should be said or perceived.

Yeah, those darn Hill Toppers & Miss St. Bulldogs... ;)

The rest of the schedule is pretty tough though, rotating Alabama in this year didn't help matters. Hopefully next year y'all can get post-Manzeil Ta&m.

edit: nope, took a look at the 2014 SEC schedule, and you get LSU.

Yeah, but in the next year and beyond there will be better players coming in to UK. They have the 14th ranked recruiting class next year.

Everyone knows we mean giving up the berth in the Championship game. You're the one who wants to argue the point and play word games.

This is interesting, prior to Missouri going to the sec, those sec folks never really thought much about Missouri and figured that they could never play in the sec, but NOW that they ARE in the sec and playing well, they are suddenly a sec capable team.

That sucks I am glad we are seeing Mauk than Berkstresser I would rather see Mauk over Berkstresser anyday!!! :)

I'm not playing any word games and I know exactly what you mean but say it right, If you mean NO then say no not YES thinking we should all know yes means no. I'm not an idiot here but point of the fact remains they didn't lose the championship just the opportunity to play in it. A little respect goes a long way when someone is really speaking of how it really was vs how it could have been.

Acutally we thought Misu would do ok, They have won a few big 12 titles in this decade... We thought AnM however would be a bottom feeder.. But Johnny changed that for the next year at least...

UM and UF will be the main reason we get bumped to #3 in the BCS. SoS, period. Both of them not having good years will hurt, and UM is sucking wind right now against Wake. A&M is rolling Vandy.

Bowden returns, would have loved to sit in on this:

Working till 14:00, then heading home. Two tv's already setup for Bama/Tn and FSU/NCSU. Time for revenge for last year... Also smoking some wild hog.

And when he's gone, with the "stellar" defense they have, they'll be right there on the bottom.

But yeah, I remember that Mizzou was the one that was supposed to do well, and people were surprised how bad they did last year and how good Manzeil was.

Yep, and they are a Manziel injury from being that bottom feeder.

Mizzou picked a bad season to join. This year however it's coming together for them. They have gotten it together, and some injuries to other east teams have helped them along as well.
