NCAA 2009-2010 The Bowls

Q: Is there a more picturesque stage in sports than The Rose Bowl? Not just in college, I mean in ALL of sports....

Bright, clear skies at kickoff. After halftime, the sun sets, creating a purplish hue behind the cascading San Gabriel Mountains.

You guys can have your Sugar, Fiesta and Orange Bowls. If my team's not playing in the MNC, there's not a grander stage in sports I'd rather play in than the Rose Bowl.

Probably because your conference champion had no business being on the same field as the SEC runner-up.

Seriously though you guys put a good whoopin on the HBC's team, who is probably one of the worst bowl coaches. Congrats:up

And, as seeing from the rest of the SEC's bowl performance, not to mention UF's record, neither did the rest of your "superconference"

The SEC is turning into the old ACC - the ACC was FSU and the 7 dwarfs. This is Al/UF and the 10 dwarfs :)

100% agreed. I hope I get to see UConn play in the Rose Bowl in my lifetime.

I'll take the others and mean every other one since it is general consensus that The rose bowl and its conference affiliates are the biggest hurdle to a college playoff.

The other conferences should just say to hell with them and form a playoff themselves. Eventually the Big 10 and Pac 10 would come begging to be let in, same as when they came asking to be let into the old Bowl Alliance.

I hate to sound pompous, but without the Big 10 and Pac 10 (USC), there is no college football.

The SEC is 5-4 in the bowl games.. Including wins over a few Conference Champions..

Florida (8-0 SEC) Beat Big East Champ Cincy (7-0)

Arkansas (3-5 SEC) team beat CUSA champ E. Carolina

Ole Miss (4-4 SEC) beat Oklahoma St (6-2 Big 12)

Auburn (3-5 SEC) Beat North Western (5-3 Big 10)

Georgia (4-4 SEC) Beat Texas A&M (3-5 Big12)

We may very well add Alabama over Texas but I will wait...

The losses were tough, the Bottom of the SEC did not fair to well..

Kentucky (3-5 SEC) Lost to Clemson (6-2 ACC) ACC runner up.

Tennesse (4-4) lost to Virginia Tech (6-2 ACC) #3 in the ACC

LSU (5-3 SEC) lost to Penn St (6-2 Big 10) #2/3 in the big 10. I am not one for making excuses congrats to the lions.. But it is easier to play power football then speed football on a crap field. LSU defense held the lions to 1 touchdown.. Had LSUs offense not been so limited it might of been different. But congrats to the lions. This was probably the best match up that the SEC lost. (as far as teams being equal)

South Carolina (3-5 SEC) Lost to UConn (3-4) A battle of the bottom feeders.

All and all I dont feel to bad about this years results. The bottom/middle of the SEC lost to the top of the ACC... The middle of the SEC dominated the big 12. The top of the SEC brought us 1 BCS bowl and we are awaiting a national title.

I just thought of something quite ironic....

For NYE dinner, I had Duck Confit at a local French Brasserie. The next day, my Bucks cooked the Ducks of Oregon. Coincidence?! :D

Finally a chance to comment! As I stated in my adventure thread, we watched the game in a bar with no sound, so I'm sure I missed a lot of things you guys learned. I recorded the game, but haven't watched any of it yet. Haven't watched Buckeye Blitz either.

First and foremost...well done Terrelle Pryor! Just a phenomenal game from this young man. I was his harshest critic, and I must say I was so happy for him that he played so well. Seemed like Tressel loosened the reigns at the right time, and Pryor responded with a terrific game. Great decisions, great running, great passing. That's what I'm talking about!!!

He still seemed to panic a little when he had to check down from his primary receiver, but I remember one throw across his body, when he was running to his right, that was something I've never seen from him before...an improvisation on the run and finding a receiver open. Wonderful.

I saw a graphic they put up at the end regarding Troy Smith and Vince Young, I guess they were comparing Pryor's maturation to those guys, but I'm not sure it's a valid comparison. Don't remember Young at all, but did Troy even play much as a sophomore? Didn't Justin Zwick take more snaps than Troy? I forget. I just remember them losing three games in a row that year, and one was Northwestern.

Right at the time everyone at the bar was going crazy, I made sure to watch Jim Tressel enjoy the victory...and I'm looking forward to hearing his comments when he was interviewed after the game. Congratulations to Tressel, he finally used the six weeks to come up with a very good game plan.

I think the most important part of the game was when Oregon had just tied the game at 10 in the second quarter and had all the momentum. There were like nine minutes left if the half when Ohio State got the ball back, and they methodically marched down the field and kicked a field goal with about a minute left in the half. Keeping the Oregon offense off the field at that point was as crucial as the three points.

Then, when the Oregon offense does finally get back on the field, there is an interception and another field goal. With Oregon gettting the second half kickoff (and scoring a touchdown) those six points were important.

That guy Varner or Barner or Barn-Burner or whatever almost beat the Buckeyes all by himself. Wow, that kid runs like the wind.

Great games by Posey and Sanzenbacher, but the biggest catch, I thought, was to some big guy (did not see his name, I was too busy high-fiving Australian guys!) in the fourth quarter on like a third and 15. After that catch I really thought we just might win.

But when the Oregon kicker missed the field goal with five minutes left, I knew we were going to win! Wow, it was so nice to see Jim Tressel's face, earning a victory like that. They almost got it against Texas, they almost got it against USC, but they actually got it on Friday.

Awesome.

Oh man this will be painful. An entire year of "See OSU is good we finnaly won a BCS bowl game!!"

To that Ill add, 0-10 vs the SEC =)

Who cares about the SEC? We didn't play the SEC this year. Other teams are smacking them around this time. ;)

Oh yeah, and don't forget...Ohio State won a BCS game. :D

Oh boo who! Someones sad the Gator reign is over. Expect the Buckeyes to be ranked higher going into next year.

Out with the old in with the new! :D

Yeah, 15 years of Tebow at QB for Florida is enough already...time to move on!
