A Boise State Fiesta Bowl Win Makes Everyone On The Field Amorous (KOGOD Update) - Boise State - Deadspin

Can't wait to see what happens after NEXT years Boise St. bowl game :)

That sound you hear is are Big 10 critics eating crow

:up

Congrats Iowa! And welcome back Ricky Stanzi!

A basic recap of the Big-10 Bowl Games so far....

Ohio State downed Pac-10 champion Oregon in the Rose Bowl, Penn State defeated SEC member LSU in a mud pit and Wisconsin completely shut down high scoring Atlantic Coast Conference member Miami.

Even in defeat, the Big Ten proved competitive. Minnesota lost 14-13 to Iowa State, Michigan State was within striking distance before losing by 10 to Texas Tech and Northwestern fell by three in overtime against Auburn in one of the most exciting bowl games you'll ever see.

Iowa's victory over Georgia Tech on Tuesday gave the Big Ten a 4-3 record in bowl games this season in which league teams played schools from the Big 12, SEC, Pac-10 and ACC -- all major conferences.

I'd say Big Ten football is still in the elite group.

Who cares as long as YOUR team wins....IF you conference were to go 6-1 and the lone loss is YOUR team.....would you reall give a crap about the conference.

When SEC people keep shoving their elitist viewpoint of your conference down your throat, you tend to get defensive. I was rooting for Iowa last night because they're from the Big Ten, and so were countless others.

Perhaps you have to be rooting for a team that doesn't jump from conference to conference to understand. ;)

Sorry....sort of lost the train of thought after THAT elist comment....:p

I just find it hard to root for a team YOU want to kick it's a$$ ALL YEAR LONG and HOPE they lose to EVERYONE ELSE in your conference....

Does not make sense...but to each his/her own I guess....;)

It is true though. When you have roots in a conference you may look at things differently. ;)

I am a BIG Syracuse Orangeman basketball fan that is an original member of the Big East. The ONLY time I worry about the conference, is how many get in the Dance. After that, I don't give a ratz a$$ about them after. YEAH, it was nice you got in, no hold your own.

What Georgetown does has absolutely NO REFLECTION on the Orangemen.....none.

I feel somewhat the same way about basketball actually. The Big East teams who have been there a while, who I dislike (Syracuse, Georgetown, Villanova, etc.), I will never root for. The Marquettes and Cincinnatis I really do not care about one way or the other.

Football is different, however. Because you don't get the ultimate playoff system, you are reduced to some extent to rooting for conference teams in bowl games to validate your team. Ask the SEC guys...

And, as stated above, I think whether or not a team has roots in a conference is a factor. Because there are so many basketball teams in the Big East (and because they've changed more than once in my lifetime) I actually lose track of who is in the conference sometimes.

Like I said, I will never understand rooting for a team that you wanna kill all season, when they are in a bowl game.

...and I keep asking the same question...IF your team were to go to another conference, suddenly you are rooting for the other conference?

Pay no attention to those SEC folks....there is no documented proof they are better than anyone else. LOL!! My team plays in the ACC, believe me, that talk about how bad the ACC is does not bother me one bit.;)

Michigan didn't make a Bowl this year, so us Buck Nut fans are allowed to root for the rest of the Big-10. Now if Michigan played, I probably wouldn't be rooting for them. They are the one exception. :D

I hope the LOL means you are joking, and you understand there is documented proof that the SEC has been one of the most dominateing conferences in college football. (Certainly within the last 20 years or so) Even longer.

Not to mention since the BCS era the SEC has won HALF of the national titles. (well thursday will be the deciding factor)

I dont see how you do not understand conference pride in college football? There is no playoff.. The only way your team has a chance to a major bowl or bcs title is by coming from a strong conference. Your conference is judged by its OOC games, its previous bowl wins and a number of other factors. So rooting for your conference when it plays OOC games or bowls only makes sense. You want your conference to be the strongest it can be. This way your team has a better shot at a higher ranking and a better bowl. There were how many undefeated teams this year? Why did Alabama and Texas get in? Because of conference power.

Just look at miami. Even if they went undefeated Alabama and Texas would still be playing for the title. Because of the strentgh of the Big12 and SEC vs the ACC. The ACC did great this year in the bowls, but unfortuntely they lost to the SEC bigtime during the regular season.

I will be rooting for Alabama come thursday. Roll tide Roll!! why? Because my teams only loss this year was to them. Id rather that one loss of came to the national champion then the second place team. If Alabama wins, it gives FLA a much better chance of ending in #2 in the nation. If Alabama lost FLA would be lucky to end #4.

De[pends on how close the game is. Is Texas loses in a close game, they'll stay ahead of Florida, considering how Alabama humiliated them.

Either way though, Florida will be at least #3, since both TCU & Cincinnati lost, and I can't see Boise St. going ahead of them.

Leave it to the self absorbed SEC fan to think that College Football started with the advent of the BCS Bowl Games (1998)

Take this all-time win list to decide for yourself who are the real players in College Football History....

1. Michigan: 872-297-38

4. Nebraska: 827-337-41
5. Ohio State: 808-306-53
6. Penn State 801-349-43

8. Oklahoma: 788-300-53
