NCAA 2009-2010 The Bowls

Leave it to the self absorbed SEC fan to think that College Football started with the advent of the BCS Bowl Games (1998)

Take this all-time win list to decide for yourself who are the real players in College Football History....

1. Michigan: 872-297-38
2. Texas: 832-320-34
3. Notre Dame: 831-285-42
4. Nebraska: 827-337-41
5. Ohio State: 808-306-53
6. Penn State 801-349-43
7. Alabama: 799-316-43
8. Oklahoma: 788-300-53
9. Tennessee: 776-327-55
10. USC: 765-303-54

Let's break those out in conferences. How many does each conference have in the top 10 you ask? .........

Big 10: 3
Big 12: 3
SEC: 2
Pac10: 1
Indie: 1

How long has the Big 10 been around?

In Insiders defense, he did say "within the last 20 years or so". You can't argue that the SEC hasn't changed college football since 1992. They were the first to have a conference championship (which is basically a playoff game). Now nearly every conference has a championship game (and the Big Ten will probably have one in 2 or 3 years).

Actually you can thank (good or bad) Roy Kramer for the way college football is today. He found the loophole in the NCAA that allowed the SEC to expand and have a championship, and he created the BCS.

See what I mean? This conference thing is important to people, especially regarding football. Anyone who does not care how the rest of their conference does in bowl games is in the minority.

Michigan didn't make a Bowl this year, so us Buck Nut fans are allowed to root for the rest of the Big-10. Now if Michigan played, I probably wouldn't be rooting for them. They are the one exception. :D

Considering that Buck Nut fans really don't have any hatred for the likes of Northwestern, Michigan State, or Minnesota, I 100% agree with what HD said.

Oh, I do not doubt that it is important to some. I just do not understand the wanting to kick someones ass all season and suddenly root for that team to win down the road.

OK, the ONLY exception to the rule is if will benefit YOUR TEAMS chances to win a champsionship....:D

I guess one analogy you can use is brothers who will fight tooth and nail over anything and everything. But if someone else does anything to one of those brothers...look out, the other one will be on the warpath.

Or if you have FIVE OLDER BROTHERS who pick on you day and night so much that you spend half your time running to daddy in tears...and then they pick on you for that too! But heaven help anyone from outside the family who so much as looks at their little sister the wrong way...;)

Perhaps it's an Italian thing!

After last night's Fiesta Bowl, let me be the first to say TCU is overrated!
Agreed!

Way back in early December I made some predictions about the bowl games that turned out to be wrong, mostly because the Pac-10 embarrassed itself this year. The only Pac-10 team that played up to its potential was lowly UCLA, which was playing even lowlier Temple. Stanford at least had an excuse---its star quarterback could not play because of an injury.

One of my predictions was that Boise State would not just beat TCU but blow them away. I think that would have come true if Kellen Moore had had a typical (for him) game. But he had an absolutely horrible day. With BSU already leading, on two separate occasions Moore overthrew wide open, touchdown-bound receivers. He didn't just slightly miss, he threw past them by 5 yards or more. And he was not under intense pressure from TCU at the time. On other occasions, on shorter passes, he threw in front of, behind, or over the heads of open receivers. He was pathetic. The score could easily have been 28-0 after the first quarter.

Yet, in spite of an awful day for Moore, BSU won and was never in any real danger of losing. I agree with Sandra. The BSU punter was their MVP.

Excellent analogy Sandra. :up

Well, how would you rank the bowls at this point in terms of excitement?

I have to say, last nights GMAC bowl would be close to the top. Great game, and fun to watch.

The Outback was also obviously a very entertaining game.

What do you guys think?

Why would you say they were rated? They played their equal and lost a tough game by a touchdown!
That's the problem with having them play each other. Everyone's going to dismiss the winner and say the loser was overrated.

Hell, either one could have beaten Cincinnati and probably a couple other BCS teams.
Boise St. has proven it can play with the big boys when they beat Oklahoma a couple years ago.
The Mountain West isn't a pansy conference either, not after what they did to the SEC in the previous year's Sugar Bowl.

You are absolutely right! Be these to teams playing each other, it did NOT prove that either team can play with the big boys....only each other. The Fiesta Bowl LOVED the idea of 2 unbeatens in their bowl....but it f**ked up how college football could rate how good these teams really are.

Did anyone see the GMAC Bowl last night?

Yesterday, I mentioned Dan LeFevour in the 2010 NFL Draft thread. For whatever reason, the experts rate him as a 2nd-3rd round pick. Last night, on a national stage, he once again showed why I am so high on this kid. I'd love for my Browns to swoop him up in the 2nd round.

I've got a LeFevour and the only prescription is more cowbell! :D:D

The bad part is, the Fiesta Bowl passed on Cincinnati twice to get these 2 teams. Probably figured (correctly) that these 2 teams would bring better ratings and fans, but unfortunately made the game look like a 2nd tier bowl game to the rankers.

YEP...! But remember, those Fiesta folks don't give a ratz yinzer about poll rankers and and are only looking for....CHA-CHING!!!!
