NBA Lockout thread

the one thing we can all agree on is that this whole thing is one big mess. i think i'll stay away from it for awhile since i don't expect things to change much anyway anytime soon

Chances are nothing will change until January, rey. That's when both sides will put their absolute best deals on the table, and hopefully come to an agreement.

sounds right to me.like you said, hopefully.

No new talks in sight. Players would not go to 50/50 revenue split.

Remember, Gumbal said it....not the players....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have not heard Billy Hunter or any players disagree the statement.

When Adrian Peterson made an equally dumb statement about slavery and the NFL, he was condemned universally by the players and D. Smith.

Correct me if I am wrong...Gumbel does not represent the players. Those are his words... not the players. IF you have been following the thread, there was a very good interview by Trey Wingo, if I am not mistaken, with Michael Wilbon. Check it out and get a better understanding.

This quote pretty much tells exactly what the owners have wanted to do from day one:

As Spurs owner Peter Holt reportedly said during negotiations, the players haven't felt enough pain yet.

NBA lockout -- Lack of a deal not too surprising - ESPN

Sounds to me like they wanna bargain "in good faith" ...LOL!

From the same linke:

You know a deal is nowhere close when the owners' side has Dan Gilbert telling the players to trust him. Yeah, that'll work. It's the same Dan Gilbert who went from sweet-talking LeBron James and offering him $125 million to shooting arrows at his back after he left. Put it this way: How seriously would the owners take it if LeBron came into the room and told the Cavs' owner to take the players' proposal and trust him on it?

LMAO!!

What I find the funniest is the owners stating they are financially secure enough to sit out a season...I thought they were struggling financially and this is the reason they locked out the players in the 1st place. So...which one is it? IF they were really losing money, they would be negocaiting to not lose anymore. But Myabe that's just me...

Rhetoric Alert!!!

If they're losing money by playing the season, not playing the season will save them money. Of course, this assumes there are no penalties for breaking things like tv contracts, arena contracts and such.

It is you.

Making no money is better than losing money.

Good point. But then in those TV contracts, there has to be some clauses that state they can prorate some of those moneys if games are not played.

LOL we have no time for your logical observations in this thread.

We are much too busy with rhetoric and accusations...;)
