NBA Basketball 2009-10 Season

If Beasley is such an "immediate" impact guy, why is your team ready to give up on him?

This may be a telling sign sent to Phoenix, if Miami IS indeed willing to ship off their highly touted draft pick from a few years ago. Like I said, Hickson might just be the safer bet. Plus he makes a lot less....

Did you not read my post...The HEAT DO NOT want to give him up. But the ONLY way they would give him up is IF it involves another team and another player coming to the HEAT.

I thought the Heat weren't going to make any more moves until Dwayne Wade came out and committed to the Heat past this year? I think this is all a bluff.

They weren't. But let's be serious....Does the Cavs really need to make any other moves? No...not really. BUT...this shows Lebron that they are commited to making Cleveland a serious contender. ALSO....IF and I mean a HUGE IF, Lebron left...there is another marquee name on the roster. No where near Lebron status...but something that would prevent a massive bailout of season ticket holders if he DID leave.

QUESTIONABLE MVP for one(no WAY he should have won that one above Shaq, but that is for another discussion). And he was Nash for quite a while. What makes you think that he would develope this so called chemsitry with Cleveland?

IF he goes ANYWHERE, he more than likely will be the #2 guy. No team that does not have a #1 guy will trade for him because of his salary. EVERYONE that is making a pitch for him ALREADY has a number #1.

You're getting hung up on #1, #2, etc.

With Cleveland he would be more of a role player...a really good role player. Chemistry will be less of an issue as they have a lot more weapons than Miami. Heck, they have the best record in the league WITHOUT Amare.

Amare and Wade would not be enough to make Miami a contender.

According to Cavs beat reporter, Brian Windhorst....
Cavs have continued talks with Wiz about Jamison but sources say there is competition. Celtics are still involved, sources say

Boston has been testing market for Rasheed Wallace, potentially to make room for Jamison. Source says all of that is unlikely, tho

In 2007 the Cavs lost in the NBA Finals
In 2008 they lost in the second round to the Celtics (eventual Champions)
In 2009 they lost in the ECF to the Magic (eventual NBA Final Runner up)

So you see, the Cavs have been debatabley one of the best teams in the last 3 years. In 3 years, we have been in the mix for an NBA Championship, but got ousted by the eventual NBA Champion/ runner-up.

In '07 and '08, the better team won. Last year, I still think we were the best team in the league, but ran into a bad matchup and when the Magic were unbelievably hot. We caught them at the wrong time. This year, I feel even better of our chances against anybody in the league, especially if we get Amar'e.
but when you actually have the championship experience, it accounts to much more. and the cavs weren't better than the Lakers last year. You guys couldn't stop the post game of the Magic, no way in hell you were going to slow down Odom/Bynum/Pau; the Magic couldn't even do that ;)

And Kobe is reportedly out again tonight.

A few updates on the trade front from overnight. From Cavs beat....

Here is the latest on Cavs based on sources. Waiting on PHX to accept trade or not. PHX stalling, waiting for other offers to mature.

The Cavs can save Suns more $ than package Miami is currently offering. But PHX are allowing Heat time to put things together.

As such, Cavs have lined up other options with the leading candidate being Antawn Jamison. But there are others, too.

Cavs waiting for Suns call, have Wizards on speed dial.

Wait and see: Stoudemire remains Cleveland Cavaliers' top target, but Jamison still a strong option | Cleveland Cavaliers - cleveland.com

I've said from the beginning, I think Antawn Jamison would be a better fit on this team, but Amare is an intriguing option, ONLY if we can extend his contract past this year. Either way, I would be happy with either of these guys. If both deals fall through though, I say we just stay put.

Other rumors have the Cavs interested in Corey Maggette and Troy Murphy. I want neither of those guys.

Making a Case for Amar'e

The local paper outlined 5 reasons the Cavs should and shouldn't trade for Stoudemire...

THE PROS

Completes a young core: At 27, Stoudemire is in his prime and coming off his fifth All-Star appearance. Alongside LeBron James, Mo Williams, Delonte West and Anderson Varejao, the Cavs would have pieces in place that could create a dynasty.

Impressing LeBron: James has always dreamed of playing on a team loaded with All-Stars. With Stoudemire, the Cavs would have four All-Stars from the last two seasons on the roster. It may help complete his free agency decision this summer.

Nightmare for defenses: Already a tough team to guard, adding Stoudemire would give them another dynamic offensive threat who would have to be covered on every possession. He's also excellent on the fast break, something that would help the team run. It would potentially create better shots for everyone else on the team.

Big man depth: Stoudemire can defend most centers and has for years. It would give the Cavs an extra big man to use on the large front lines of the Celtics, Lakers and Magic. Especially if Zydrunas Ilgauskas is able to complete a buyout and return to the Cavs.

Trade steal: The Cavs have been built with Danny Ferry leveraging owner Dan Gilbert's willingness to spend. He got Williams and O'Neal for relative pennies on the dollar by making lopsided trades. This potentially would be another one for that file.

THE CONS

Contract issue: A major reason why the Suns are considering trading Stoudemire is because of his contract demands; he can be a free agent this summer. The Cavs may be in danger of only being able to "rent" him for the rest of this season.

Finding a role: Stoudemire has been the Suns' leading scorer every season since 2006-07. He averages 14 shots a game. He will not get either in Cleveland. It isn't clear how he'd adjust to a new role, especially in his prime with a new contract coming up.

Chemistry disruption: The Cavs are playing very well and have the best record in the league at 43-11 and an excellent rhythm. Stoudemire's addition would cause a disruption and an uncertain adjustment period.

Defense: The Suns play fast and loose, and it is the loose part that would concern the Cavs. The only time he played in a structured defense-first setup, last season, he was part of a rebellion that got the coach fired at the All-Star break.

Can't stretch floor: The Cavs have been looking for a forward who is a good long-range shooter to punish teams for double teams to James and O'Neal. Stoudemire is not a good jump shooter.

I LOVE the excitement of trade deadline....:D

Me too. Oh, and guess who has tickets to Thurday's game (CLE vs. Denver)?

THIS GUY! If we end up getting Amare or Jamison, excitement will be at a fever pitch at the Q that night!
Me too! I can't wait to see what happens. I think Boston is a darkhorse when it comes to making a major move......they've been awfully quiet until very recently.

Considering your track record of games you've attended at the Q, that's a good sign, IMHO.

But what does Boston need for this year, and what can they give to get it.

They have 'sheed and Davis backing up Perkins and Garnett in the front court. That is four legitimate bigs. So 'sheed's three point percentage is down a little from his career average. Who is out there for better backup "big", and what can you give to get him?

They might like Jamison, but all they have to offer is the expiring contract of Ray Allen. There are two problems with an Allen for Jamison trade: 1) then you wll need to give Allen's shooting guard minutes to someone, but the only guard on the bench who can play substantial minutes is Tony Allen, who is not a shooter, and, 2) Washington can get a better deal elsewhere in the form of at least a draft pick.

They also might like to replace Allen with a younger guard who is "better" but if a guard is better, why would he be available?

Monte Ellis has been rumored to be available.
Interesting player. He is young, athletic and productive, scoring 26 ppg with a very respectable FG% but mediocre at shooting threes.

He gets $11 million a year for the next four years. Allen gets $19.7 so the deal would include Scalabrine and either the last three nobodys on the Celtics 14 man roster or Tony Allen.

Still, $11 million a year looks like a fair market value for this productive young player who plays hard for over 40 minutes a game. All that deal would get Golden State is cap room for one max contract for a player to replace Ellis. Are they still pissed at him because of his bike accident? If I were them, I'd be inclined to keep him and build around him.

Any deal the Celtics make that helps them this year will have to involve them giving up a future first round draft pick. For all the talk about teams trading for cap room, there are already too many teams with cap room, so less desirable destinations with cap room will only be able to overpay for second tier players for 2010 and beyond.
