NBA Basketball 2009-10 Season

I am a huge Amare fan, I love the intensity he plays with. It affects the rest of your team. That said, I think he's the type of player who would be MUCH more effective with a team like Cleveland than he would be in Miami. The smaller his role is, the bigger he plays.

He's not the kind of player who would make a .500 team an instant title contender, but he is the kind of player who can put a contender over the top.

On EITHER team, he would be the #2 guy...any way you look at it. I highly doubt anyone else OTHER than Lebron would get more touches than he would. AND he had he best stats WITH Shaq as his teammate(or at least I heard this morning on local radio.....I have not confirmed that). He would not make a .500 team WITHOUT a Wade a contender....but a team with a Wade...he would. Wade has been getting doubled ALL year with little help from the role players. With an option like Amare....that double team would no longer exist.

Amare is currently playing with a two-time MVP point guard named Steve Nash, and the two have shown outstanding chemistry together for a long time. It would remain to be seen if Amare can develop that kind of chemistry with Wade.

I'm just going to disagree and say I don't think a team with Amare and Wade, and not much else, would contend for a title. On Cleveland, with all of their talent besides Lebron, Amare would be a role player...and a pretty good one at that. ;)

Sandra

No, because a team can never improve too much. I am still not too convinced that the Cavs can beat Orlando or Boston in a 7 game series. Something you have to remember about these teams that have made deep playoff runs, is that they know how to weather the storm of an NBA season, whereas the Cavs are focusing really hard on winning in the regular season.

In 2007 the Cavs lost in the NBA Finals
In 2008 they lost in the second round to the Celtics (eventual Champions)
In 2009 they lost in the ECF to the Magic (eventual NBA Final Runner up)

So you see, the Cavs have been debatabley one of the best teams in the last 3 years. In 3 years, we have been in the mix for an NBA Championship, but got ousted by the eventual NBA Champion/ runner-up.

In '07 and '08, the better team won. Last year, I still think we were the best team in the league, but ran into a bad matchup and when the Magic were unbelievably hot. We caught them at the wrong time. This year, I feel even better of our chances against anybody in the league, especially if we get Amar'e.

I heard the same thing. :up

Who would go to the bench if Amar'e comes to Miami, Beasley?

IMO, he's a much better fit in Cleveland. The power-forward position is the only position a defender doesn't bother to guard and shifts double teams to everyone else. (You heard what Stan Van Gundy said about JJ Hickson, didn't you?) With Amar'e in Cleveland, defenders would be forced to single cover every player. Take a look at this lineup....

PG- Mo Williams
SG- Delonte West
SF- LeBron James
PF- Amar'e Stoudemire
C- Shaq

Forget what I said before about having reservations. This lineup "on paper" is SCARY!

QUESTIONABLE MVP for one(no WAY he should have won that one above Shaq, but that is for another discussion). And he was Nash for quite a while. What makes you think that he would develope this so called chemsitry with Cleveland?

IF he goes ANYWHERE, he more than likely will be the #2 guy. No team that does not have a #1 guy will trade for him because of his salary. EVERYONE that is making a pitch for him ALREADY has a number #1.

Amar'e squashes rumors that him AND Shaq can't play well together, according to his twitter. I wonder if Amar'e is tipping his hat where he wants to go?!

"You guys can stop saying we don't play well together," Stoudemire tweeted.

It has NOTHING to do with fit. That is not my argument. My argument is, it is a better trade for Phoenix IF they trade with Miami because their #1 will be a higher pick than the Cavs. And IF they include Beasley in that trade(which Miami said they would not)...AND a #1, that ALOT better offer than the stiff and JJ Hickson.

He would be a great fit in Cleveland....but fit means nothing and it ALL depends on what Phoenix is gonna get back.

I love the week of trade deadlines in the NBA and MLB!!!!:D

Sources: Cavs talking to Warriors

By Chris Broussard

The Cleveland Cavaliers' pursuit of Amare Stoudemire continues, but in case they can't land the Phoenix Suns' All-Star forward, they have begun talks with the Golden State Warriors about Corey Maggette.

Despite their league-high 13-game win streak, the Cavaliers are leaving no stone unturned in attempting to improve their team and bring the city it's first major sports league championship in 46 years.

In addition to speaking to the Washington Wizards regarding Antawn Jamison and the Indiana Pacers regarding Troy Murphy, Cleveland is in discussions with the Warriors about Maggette, according to four sources with knowledge of the talks.

Stoudemire is far and away the Cavaliers first choice, and sources close to Stoudemire said a report Monday that he told Cleveland he doesn't want to play there is false.

Sources say the Cavaliers are willing to send Zydrunas Ilgauskas, J.J. Hickson, a first-round pick and another player (to make the deal work financially) to Phoenix for Stoudemire, but while the Suns mull over their options, Cleveland remains one of the most active teams in the league leading up to Thursday's trade deadline.

The Cavs might need a Plan B, as the Miami Heat are pushing hard to land Stoudemire as well, sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein on Monday night.

It is not clear whether the Cavaliers' second-choice is Jamison or Maggette. The discussions with Golden State have centered around Cleveland sending Ilgauskas and his $11.5 million expiring contract to the Warriors for Maggette. Other players, perhaps Cleveland's Danny Green and Golden State's Devean George, would have to be added to make the deal work financially.

Hickson is no stiff. Evidently you haven't seen him much this season. He's still raw, but if he was still at NC State, he would be only a Junior! Hickson has show great growth and potential this year. I would hate to lose him. I see him as a force in this league for a while.

Plus, Hickson has a lot better head on his shoulders than (in-and-out of rehab) Michael Beasley. Hickson is a safer bet. Beasley is a loose cannon with a lot of risk.

I hope to God this is just being thrown out there to make Phoenix nervous. I don't want to trade one tall, uncoordinated white guy (Big Z) for another uncoordinated white guy (Troy Murphy) AND give up our future in Hickson!

If it isn't Jamison or Amar'e, I say let's stay put! I don't want anyone else!

Not Hickson...I am talking about Zydrunas Ilgauskas. I LIKE Hickson.

A LOOSE CANNON??!! LMAO according to what, his medial report that neither YOU or I have access to? Is upside is better than anyone on the Cavs team other than Lebron. HUGE difference coming into the league as the #2 OVERALL pick and needing to be an IMMEDIATE impact and coming in at #19 overall pick on a team that is competing for a championship where there is plenty of time to just break the lineup....

Hmmm, according to a local beat writer, the Cavs, NOT the Heat have a more attractive offer....

In addition to Hickson and possibly a first round draft pick (the Suns currently don't have a 1st round pick in 2010), if they work a buyout of Ilgauskas’ contract, in addition to saving money by shipping off Amar'e, they could also potentially save around $10 million in salary, luxury taxes and revenue-sharing bonuses.

The Heat are just offering Beasley and draft picks. By shipping off Amar'e, it's clear Phoenix is looking to clear up cap space and save money. They can save MORE by taking the deal from Cleveland, by then turning around and buying out Ilgauskas' contract.

Enter a new player to the dance...

Brian Windhorst’s (Cavs beat) latest tweet:

“Cavs fans ought to watch Knicks-Hou talks. If NYK clears that cap space, they reach goal of having 2 max contract slots. Gamechanger”
Amare, please!

If Beasley is such an "immediate" impact guy, why is your team ready to give up on him?

This may be a telling sign sent to Phoenix, if Miami IS indeed willing to ship off their highly touted draft pick from a few years ago. Like I said, Hickson might just be the safer bet. Plus he makes a lot less....

JC, I'm going to lose my mind before Thursday if this isn't settled!!!!!

(Chris Broussard on ESPN First Take) is now saying that the Knicks are trying all they can to prevent Amar’e from coming to Cleveland!

The Knicks don’t want two of the big free agents ending up on the same team, especially if one of those free agents is Lebron.

I’m not sure what if anything New York can do to prevent this. Either way, wouldn’t that be tampering?

Let's see. The Lakers in that same stretch were:

2007 - Eliminated in first round
2008 - Lost in NBA finals to Celtics
2009 - Won Championship.

Same number of series if my math is right.
