MLB 2013 Season

WELL NOW, I've been away for a few weeks and come back and see that we are all getting along in our usual happy fashion!:p

Anyway, although I am a fan of the team "down the 5 a bit" that is tanking worse than anyone could have thought; it is refreshing to see the incredible turnaround (understatement) that the Dodgers have made. After the crashing THUD that ended the Kings' post season it is nice to have some sports energy back in L.A.

Welcome back. Perhaps we can get a little more of the west side of the country represented here to balance things out a little? :D

Amidst all the madhouse there is the magic. And the Dodgers have now won 8 straight, 13 out of 14, they are 40 and 8, they have won 12 straight series, everything they do is magical, and it's Adrián González driving in Yasiel Puig.

Another incredible moment here in the Magic Castle and the Dodgers spilling out in joy with one thought in mind - let's go out and get the veteran, Adrián González. And Puig is out there to grab him as well.

One way our another. Dodgers were down 4 to nothing tonight then it was 4 to 2. They rallied in the 9th inning as Andre Ethier hit the magical home run to tie and darned if they don't win it in the 12th.

Vinny sure has a way of describing things.

Wow! What a throw by Puig.

And now looking back, this throw was even more important. If he did not throw Byrd out at 3rd, the Dodgers would have lost. The guy that got the hit ended up scoring that inning, meaning Byrd would have also scored, giving the Mets at least one more run that inning.

For those that missed it. The key is not how close or far Puig is from the outfield wall, it is how close Byrd is to 3rd when he finally got to the ball. The only chance to even get him out was the quickness, arm strength, and accuracy had to all be dead on.

Just as the Iglesias play was special not because he was deep in the hole at SS, he was actually just behind the mound when he made the throw (it is not how close he was to first), it was the reaction, quickness, and accuracy.

I just heard the SNY boys calling Puig's throw on KNX here. They were over the top in excitement and praise of his arm.

Balance? Funniest thing I've read here in a long time.

One look at the post count and a quick perusal of this thread shows there are plenty of left coast ball washing posts here already.

There were others from the west coast here? I must have missed them. Pro did post on occasion.

You know darn well what I meant. Posters, not Posts

Most recognized how good the play was except for those that intentionally went out of their way to not like it because they either do not like Puig or do not like the hype he is getting. I do admit that hype has been over the top at times.

But if one honestly did not think it was a good play, then that is their opinion and I am OK with it even though I disagree. My issue is with those that intentionally did not like it because of who made the play. I have seen a lot of criticism of the play for that reason alone on many forums.

.
With a preponderance of it coming from this forum alone...

A little early, but I guess when you have a 14.5 game lead you can already look at magic numbers.

MLB agrees to expand replay. Union still has to agree. Here is the proposal:

All calls except balls and strikes and balks can be challenged.

Managers get 3 challenges. One between inning 1 and 6. Two challenges from inning 7 on.

Manager will not be charged with challenge on successful review.

If a manager uses all challenges, the ump crew can initiate a review on HR calls only.

Calls on disputed plays will be made at the MLBAM office where all games are televised.

I'm fine with all of them except the last one:

I would rather they hire a crew of people that are in the stadium to over see the game/calls, thus making more opportunities for employment ... I think On Sight would be a much better idea ... I understand the NHL uses this idea as well, I have never liked the idea of someone elsewhere over looking the game to see if you made a mistake.
NHL should have people in place at thier arenas as well.

They say that the people in NY will be watching the game, however with them having to watch ALL the games that are going on, they won't be IN the game like someone that was there watching.

I hate the challenge crap. I think they should have a 5th umpire in a booth at the park looking at all close plays.
