MLB 2013 Season

It was disclosed that Uehara has a $4.25 million 2014 vesting option that kicks in at 55 appearances and he is presently at 54. He also is eligible for a small additional bonus this year for finishing a certain number of games that he likely will not reach.

I sure as hell hope that we don't next read of Napoli's secret vesting option. He is virtually guaranteed of getting his whole $13 million this year. He won't reach the last step bonus of $2 million for 625 plate appearances, but he will instead earn the entire contract by reaching the overriding 165 days available threshold. When this season is over, his RBI numbers will look respectable, but he had 27 of them in April and has been a stiff ever since, also striking out about 40% of the time.

Iggy had another infield single for Detroit last night. Nine singles, one homer, no walks for his Detroit tenure, to date. .286. Who knows? He could be the next Otis Nixon. I honestly never saw Otis Nixon get a solid base hit in his entire career.

Napoli has been okay for the Sox this year, but I hope they part ways with him in the offseason. Before Iglesias got traded, I was hoping for a Middlebrooks (1B), Pedroia (2B), Bogaerts (3B) and Iggy (SS) infield next season. Now that Iggy is gone, Bogaerts can play his natural position of SS, and either Middlebrooks stays at 3B and they go out and get another stop gap at 1B, or move Middlebrooks to 1B and hope that Garin Cecchini is ready to take over 3B.

Drew is only 30 and if you look at his production when not coming back from an injury, as well as his defense, he may be one of the best shortstops in the league. I'm not sure how that qualifying offer thingie works, but if the Red Sox have to offer him $13 million to yield a draft choice and no one else bites, I think he can be worth $13 million, or even $13 million x 3 years at his age. Middlebrooks to first base, Bogaerts to third, then Bogaerts to left when the next left side infielder moves up. Leaves lots of money for pitchers.

I remember when the Red Sox were paying 1/4 of their roster under $4 million: Papelbon, Pedroia, Lester, Buchholz, Ellsbury and Okajima (he sure became a distant memory in a hurry, didn't he? He might have been the best set-up man in the league for one season). It lets a team do stupid things with the extra $150 million left in the cash drawer (Crawford, Lackey, Becket, etc.)

Dodgers beat the Rays again, now taking this series. They have not lost their last 16 series, 11-0-5).

They are 19-3 since all star break.

The Dodgers now take the first 2 of a 3 game series against the Mets, guaranteeing another series win.

They are now 12-0-5 in their last 17 series. Have yet to lose a series in the last 17 they played.

They are now 22-3 since the All Star break.

Reds win and cut their deficit to 3 1/2 games after being down 7 games at one time.

I thought the Pirates won. They were up 3-0 to the Cards when I last looked at the game.

The good news is the Reds are one of the current wild card teams.

Manny is available, cheap. He was released yesterday by Texas's triple A affiliate, Round Rock, with a .259 batting average and just three homers and six extra-base hits in 108 at-bats.

Nope, they lost. Marte dropped a routine fly ball in the 9th to help the Cards tie the game and win it in 14 innings. The NL central is tightening up. Pirates have lost four in a row. Is this another late season swoon for them?

I hope so. The Reds need it. :)

Good lord, with all the hype this guy gets, he should have caught the ball and then threw behind the runner to double him off ... sheeesh

He threw the ball from what, 20 feet behind 1b ?

Yeah.

No matter what a Dodger does, there is always someone else who did it better.

No matter how good of a play a Dodger makes, the play could have always been better if additional elements where thrown in.

This was even the #1 play of the day on MLBNet to this point.

This crap is really starting to get old, seriously

Why not go back and say Gibson's HR was nothing special because it happened in game 1 instead of game seven?

It was a good play on a strong off balance throw after running a bit to get to the ball. It wasn't the distance. It was how close Byrd was to 3rd at the time. It was the accuracy and strength of the throw nailing someone that would have been safe most of the time.

BTW, Puig makes more bad plays than highlight plays, diving after balls he has no chance to get to and never hitting a cutoff man. The dude really needs to improve on the fundamentals. He cannot hit a cutoff nan for the life of him.

But his spectacular plays do show the skills he posses with his arm and speed.

Never said any of what you typed ...

Go ahead and put words in the post ... Gets real tired when every night Puig picks the ball up and throws it to the infielder and it makes headlines.

It was directed at the countless posts, including yours AND others constantly bashing or criticizing every that I post about a Dodger. Heck we (collective we) just finished spending 3 pages on Gonzalez alone. It is friggen getting old.

Then that is your problem. If you think that it was just as routine as throwing a ball to an infielder, then I don't know what else to tell you.

I probably wouldn't have responded the way I did if this was the only reply. But everyday it is the same crap by a few people, over and over and over again.

The darn DBacks win again and sweep the O's. All three games were walk offs after blown saves.

This picture was posted on Twitter asking if anyone can name the celebrities. The only one I recognized was Anthony Kiedes.
