MLB 2013 Season

Obviously this means absolutely nothing, but I find it interesting that this chart says the Red Sox are the most "probable" World Series champion as of right now. This is a team that most "experts" picked last in their own division.

Teams I wouldn't mind throwing down a few dollars based on those odds:

American League- Rays and Tigers
National League- Reds and Dodgers

I base that on a lot of things, but the divisions they play in is my biggest factor (especially the Dodgers and Tigers).

One nice thing about having a JB iPad and iPhone is that I am able to get around Fox blackouts and watch any game I choose.

I had three Fox games going at the same time.

Greinke pitches a complete game shutout. The Dodgers win 1-0.

They lost 3-0 yesterday.

Puig gets injured, misses two games, and they score a total of 1 run off a misplay in two games against weak Rocky pitching staff.

I think the Puig factor is more than what he does individually, but what he does to the team as a whole.

Of course it also doesn't help when three outfielders are injured, Kemp, Puig, and Crawford, and as a result they have two reserve infielders playing outfield.

So, your saying that because Puig is in the line up the others are suddenly hitting ?
I don't buy that.
Hitting is contagious, but if that was the case, the Tigers Alex Avila would also be hitting, the have Cabrera and others going good. You would think that Avila would also be out of his 2 year .177 slump.

The numbers back it up. Look at what they did all year without him, one of the worst offenses in baseball. The month he is in the lineup the Dodgers have the best record in baseball during that time and are one of the top run scoring and offensive teams. The two days he missed since, they have their worst back to back offensive performances all year. It could simply be coincidence, but statistically that is not very likely.

Many Ramirez had the same impact on the team a few years ago.

The one and only factor that changed during that one month was the inclusion of Puig in the lineup. Not only do the numbers support it, the players themselves say as much as well. They all credited him for their increase in production.

It's called Confidence, or LACK of it when Puig isn't around.

Is Puig carrying the team, or is everyone pitching in ?

I don't know what it is called or why the team's offense is so much better when he is in it. All I know is that it is. It could be confidence; it could be spark and enthusiam; it could be motivation; it could be his offensive contribution; it could be how he affects the other team's pitcher; it could be a combination of all or some of these things.

Wow, that's a helluva indictment on the professionalism and attitude of the rest of the team that it takes the mere presence of a rookie to inspire them to play better, harder, etc.

It sounds like they better get him back in the lineup quick, or the season is essentially over....

Perhaps.

Lincecum, who has stunk it up all year and the last 2+ years, pitches a no hitter, making two games worth of pitches, and nobody is talking about it here except for me, a Giants hating Dodgers fan.

Is this another case of the west being ignored, or a case of, "if its not my team, then who cares?"

Perhaps it is just the typical Sunday down time.

best he's ever pitched straight
timmyyyy

Fortunately for Lincecum, his nearly 150 pitch game came before the All Star break. So he will get a long rest and they won't have to worry about his arm falling off.

Another interesting thing about Tim's no no is that he was involved in the only two no hitters so far this year.

Dodgers are falling like flies (injury wise), AGAIN! No Puig, No Ellis, No Kemp, No Crawford, No Beckett, No Billingsley, No Lilly...

I would say that besides the Tigers and Dodgers with the Red Sox and Yankees to a lesser extent that is what is discussed in this thread.

Baseball might just be the most regionalized team sport in this country, national ratings for baseball are terrible, while RSN's for the most part get good ratings in their area.
