MLB 2013 Season

Freeman gets the final fan vote and can't play in the game anyway. Puig wouldn't be able to play either (maybe pinch hit).

Well Puig at least made some contribution to this game. He pinch hit and singled, starting a small rally in which he scored the only run.

Since some thought I posted every AB by him, I figured I would. Thanks for the idea. ;)

I've never seen someone get hit by a pitch on a called strike and then still be allowed to take the base on HBP.

I'm sorry, if you are hit within the strike zone you should not be allowed to go to first.

Not only did Workman lose his no hitter, he also lost the lead as the As scored 2 runs on 2 hits. One hit a 2 run HR.

Why ?

He's playing in todays Dodger game.
He came in late after pinch hitting. He did not start. He is not well enough to start and play an entire game, particularly defense.

The Dodgers are in a bind right now. They currently have 4 outfielders not on the DL and one on the DL (Kemp). Of the 4, two are too injured to play (Crawford and Puig). They did not want to DL them because the All Star break maybe enough time for them to heal and they are still able to pinch hit, although not very well. Both Crawford (the extra inning game the other day) and Puig (today) were forced to play defense this week because of lack of players.

Crawford has a sore lower back and is unable to fully twist his body to drive the ball. This is why he only has one bunt hit since coming off the DL.

Puig has a sore hip and is also unable to drive the ball. He made the last out of today's game putting Fowler up against the wall. If his hip was fully healthy that ball would have went well over the wall.

The Dodgers do not want either playing during the break. They want both of them to heal.

Red Sox lose a tough one and end up 5-5 on their West Coast trip. The Sox go into the All-Star Break at 58-39. If you told me that would be their record at the ASB, I would've been like "Where do I sign"? Today's AL games have been completed. This is what the playoff seedings look like through the first half: 1)Boston 2)Oakland 3)Detroit......the teams playing in the one game Wild Card playoff would be Texas at Tampa Bay

Watching the Cubs/Cards game... Molina is a beast. He will MORE than likely win his SIXTH STRAIGHT Gold Glove as a catcher, leads the league in hitting(.340) and the front runner to be the NL's MVP.

WOW...

So Puig is still going to play in the ASG ?

Sounds like the time off would be a better option.

Never mind, , some say he is playing, others say he's not ...

I may be wrong but I think Ryan Hannigan leads the NL in throwing out runners.

Jose Iglesias now has a season batting average of .369, but he isn't actually hitting .369. He hit .395 through July 7th but has hit AND SLUGGED a more realistic .214 since then.

No surprise. About three decades ago, Bill James wrote that on average, players hit about 30 points lower in the majors than they did at Triple A. Iggy hit .244 in 829 Triple A at-bats. .244 minus 30 equals .214. He isn't in a batting slump. He is simply has recently hit what his minor league history has revealed his batting skills render him likely to produce for results in the majors.

For the rest of the season. when Iggy comes to bat late in the game with the Red Sox trailing but with runners on, it will be good percentage baseball to bat .200 to .230 hitting Drews and Middlebrookses for him because they are better hitters and will be more likely to drive in the essential runs.

Now everybody is pitching a no-no. lol

That's because they're occurring at a much faster pace than they used to.

For the 15 season span from 1992 through 2006 there were 25 no hitters. In the approximate 6.5 seasons from 2007 through now there have also been 25 no hitters.
