MLB 2013 Season

And now he hits a 2 run HR to give them the lead.

Tonight so far 1 double and 2 HRs with 5 RBI

They were leading by one when he hit the second hr.

Good start for the youngster, how long will he be up?
Is he here because someone else is injured?

You know he will not keep up his current pace with a .571 average. Pitchers will soon find holes and exploited them. He then has to learn to adjust. But he is a pure hitter. Most of his hits are line drives to the opposite field.

Yes, he is up only because Crawford and Kemp are both on the DL. They did not want to bring him up so soon. When both come off the DL, they will have to send him back down or trade Ethier. They will not use him as a backup outfielder. They want him playing everyday at the major or minor league level. Of course all of this also depends on how well he plays.

None? That is a broad generalization.
Show me one that can throw a ball in a real game situation, over 350 ft on the fly.

The unofficial record is 349 feet done in 1865 in an exhibition game. The record in a competition, non real game situation is over 400 ft. But not a single baseball player in history has ever thrown a ball that far in a real game situation.

So yes, no baseball player can throw a ball on the fly from the outfield wall (particularly closer to center than from the line, where Puig was standing at the time) on a fly to home.

I would agree with you that if he had, that would have been more impressive.

Would have been more of a "statement" if he threw him out at home. Most outfielders can make that throw to first base on the fly.

Man, you are a ray of sunshine.

Do you have anything nice to say about this kid?

From my perspective, he probably is over-hyped and has not deserved this recognition yet. But I will still give credit where it is due. He is living up to it so far as he has helped them win the first two games in which he played, and has been a one man highlight reel in both games. He has also brought a youthful enthusiasm (something that has been lacking) to the whole team.

You are correct. I was flipping back and forth between multiple games and did not realize they took the lead just before that. I was going off what Vin Scully said when he said the Dodgers now lead 8-6 after he hit his second HR and when the bottom half of the inning started they were tied.

You know,it must be galling that the Dodgers have owners that are willing to do what it takes, money wise,to produce a winner, but the Dodgers are still in last place. Could Puig be that spark to motivate the team to start winning, just like Manny Ramirez did years ago? I remember that the Dodgers had a lot of high profile players(like Nomar Garciaparra) who went down to injuries when they got Manny Ramirez in that trade,it seems like history is repeating itself this season, minus the spark plug to get the Dodgers winning. Also, with Matt Kemp's history of recurring injuries,I wouldn't trade away Andre Ethier just yet.

Yesterday was one of the most exciting days in baseball. Lots of good games, lots of walk-offs.

Just a couple here:
Murphy, a left handed outfielder, pitching and throwing a knuckle ball and striking out batters
Mayberry hitting two HRs, one to tie it and another walkoff grandslam to win it.

What stinks is after one of the best highlight days in baseball with many clutch hits, walk offs, and come from behind wins, all of the news is about the drug issue.

Just curious how you learned that Murphy supposedly threw a knuckleball. I watched the game and he threw some 70-74 MPH fastballs, and some 'off-speed' pitches too, but I didn't see any knucklers...

I hope Puig can keep his head screwed on properly. Lots of extreme hype for such a young guy. He has a few guys around him with ego issues so I hope he can steer clear of them. I wish the boy all of the luck and success one can have in the game! A curtain call when you TIE?????

The first curtain call came when they were losing didn't it? I hope he does great in his career. I was never downing what the kid has done.

I have an issue in general with all the curtain calls. But I have seen them done to tie a game, particularly when a team never comes from behind.

The first curtain call I can somewhat understand. The second one was not as big IMO

The talk shows keep saying he was throwing a knuckler.

Actually Hanley pushed him out for the last one. That's where I get concerned with the wrong teammates making an impression on him.

Pitchers already found Puig's weakness, the breaking ball. He swings at them, but cannot hit them.

I think Kemp's a big piece of the Dodgers, more or less the centerpiece of the team. He gets injured, it affects the team. As far as Ethier goes, I did hear that the Mets might get him in the offseason. That was from mlbtraderumors.com.
