MLB 2013 Season

Not based on this weekend. Geez, the Mets laid a huge goose egg this weekend!! What a disgrace. All that momentum they had with the 5 game winning streak goes right down the drain.

And though they completed a sweep of the Mets...from Sport Illustrated: baseball attendance is down 2.9 percent, but the Miami Marlins alone account for 40 percent of the decline in tickets sold.

Today was only the 2nd time I have looked at the standings, and some things REALLY stand out:

1) NL Central with THREE TEAMS above a .600 winning percentage. As much as I LOVE the Reds, I would really like the Pirates to finally make the playoffs. Those fans are long suffering and very over due.

2) The Boston Red Sox playing really well. After that major trade, they have played solid team ball.

3) Toronto Blue Jays DEAD last. Yeah they have had some big time injuries, but DEAD LAST? They are much better than that.

4) The Baltimore Orioles are a team on rise. Buck has them playing really for now two years in a row.

5) The ENTIRE AL East. ALL but ONE playing above .500 ball. No DOUBT, the best division in baseball.

But unfortunately, Pittsburgh hasn't had the talent to do well since Bonds and Bonilla left and still doesn't.

2) The Boston Red Sox playing really well. After that major trade, they have played solid team ball.

Boaston fans obsesss over the need for one more right handed hitting power hitter. but they are in a virtual 5 way tie for most runs scored as it is. Ingleisis is doing his best to force Middlebrooks to go back to Triple A Pawtuckett when he comes off the DL, so the only place they could put another right handed bat is in left field, where Nava has ontinued his lifelong run of overachieving.

The American League East was roundly denigrated as a division before the season started yet. low and behold, the two teams that spend the most money are at the top again. Who'da thunk it? The Yankees are scary because they have hovered at the top while playing without Granderson, Jeter, Texiera, A-Roid and sometimes Youikilis, but got two of them back on Friday and will likely get two more just after the All-Star break.

I'm worried about the Yankees. I mean if there playing this well, even though, with the losing streak, still above 500, near first place w/o Jeter, Granderson, A-Rod, Tex, Andy etc. imagine what happens when they come back?

I'd be worried if I were a Yankee fan. All but Granderson are well past their prime, and there's no guarantee on how many games the remaining on that list can play this year or how close they can play to their former glory days.

Nothing wrong with Both teams making the playoffs !

The Dodgers bring up wunderkind Puig tonight. If Vinny says "and a child shall lead them" Once again I will scream!

Vinny could be right. Perhaps all of these injuries may be a blessing in disguise?

Although I don't know of many teams that would be successful when they lose their lead off, cleanup, #5, #2 hitters, and their starting catcher. As well as their #2 stared for a while, and their #4, and #5 starter.

Right after I type this Vinny just mentioned that the Dodgers have already used the DL 17 times as 14 different players have been sidelined. Plus they have injuries that are day to day, such as Capuano missing tonight's start and their second best pitcher, Ryu, missing yesterday's start.

The hype reminds me of Harper and Trout.

When you are desperate because most of your key players are injured, you will hype anything that can help.

Of course it doesn't matter what Puig does if these spot starters can't get anybody out.

Someone on Twitter said, "I would consider Puig a success if he doesn't pull a hammy and go on the DL". :)

The Dodgers have only two guys in today's lineup that was in their opening day lineup.

And only 2 starting pitchers out of their original 8 starters heading into spring training. 14 guys on the DL.

Hey, if he Does pull a hammy, he gets to stay on the Major League roster for a bit longer and make the Big Boy money !

Now in Detroit, Leyland would send that line up out by CHOICE to make sure everyone gets playing time and the regulars cannot get on a roll together.

Wow! Puig made a statement with that last out to end the game. Threw a guy out at first from the right field wall on the fly. A perfect strike to 1st base.
