MLB 2013 Season

54 runs in 4 games, will this Red Sox offensive explosion continue?? It will be much tougher today against Kuroda.

The Yankees became the first American League team to ever lose three straight home games after scoring eight or more runs. The 1999 Rockies are the only National League team to do the same.

Man, I hate these late Sunday night starts. Was looking forward to watching the Dodgers play at 10am after my ride this morning.

Kershaw has not been solid during his last 4 or 5 starts, including the one against Miami where he didn't give up any runs. Hopefully tonight is the day he turns it around.

They will have to go pretty far tonight to make it more exciting than it was yesterday. That was some wild ending!

I predicted that ending. Once someone got on base I knew they would pinch run Hamilton and he would easily be at 2nd or 3rd with no outs. After that, the game was over. That dude has some friggen wheels.

The fans cheered for him when he came on the field like they cheer for Puig at The Ravine!

He is exciting. But he is only one dimensional offensively. Pure speed and not much else.

The Reds should have brought him up August 31 instead of Sept 1 so they could use him as a pinch runner in the playoffs. Even though he is one dimensional offensively, he excels at it so much that it can make a difference in a game.

He has appeared in 4 games, all as a pinch runner. Stole 4 bases and scored 3 runs. So far he has scored 75% of the time he has been used as a pinch runner.

He has no power, has hit for high average on low A ball, but low average in AAA. He was an infielder that was moved to the outfield, probably to take advantage of his speed.

Dodgers News: Closer Kenley Jansen Excelling As One-Pitch Pitcher

Jansen is able to get away with the risky combination of letting hitters practically know what he is going to throw and where he is going to throw it due to the nature of how hard it is to hit his cutter. The data shows us that Jansen’s cutter is downright filthy: Less than a quarter of the time batters swing at the pitch does it actually end up in play — far less than for his accomplished cutter-throwing peers.

The best closer in baseball is also a one pitch pitcher, throwing the same pitch, the cutter.

Desperation time in New York. They just brought Rivers in to start the eighth inning. He has had only one two-inning stint this year, but even then, that was when they brought him in for the ninth against the White Sox and he blew the save and so was left in for the tenth with the game still tied.

Update: Rivera threw a 20-pitch, 8th inning, surrendering one single.

Kershaw wins the Branch Rickey Award

"You want to be remembered for something other than baseball. You can impact other people with your faith. That's the purpose of what this is all about."

"My wife & I just feel so fortunate we get to do the stuff off the field. To get recognized for it definitely isn't what we're in it for. But it definitely is a humbling thing to get that honor. More than anything, it brings more awareness nationally to what we're trying to do, not only in Africa, but what our foundation stands for. It's a huge honor for us, and we're just so grateful for it."

From ESPN.com:

With setup man David Robertson and left-hander Boone Logan sidelined by sore arms, the 43-year-old Rivera (5-2) was brought in to start the eighth for the first time since June 20, 2006, at Philadelphia.

After tonight's Dodgers-Red game, there's exactly three weeks left in the regular season. The five playoff teams in the NL have been determined for what seems like forever! Barring major collapses, the Braves will win the East and the Dodgers will win the West. Three teams from the Central will make the playoffs, the only question is which two will have to play a one game playoff three weeks from Tuesday. The American League is much more complicated....it looks like the Red Sox will win the East and the Tigers will win the Central. It looks like the A's and Rangers will go down to the wire to determine the West winner, with the runner-up the frontrunner for the first Wild Card, and the second Wild Card coming from the Rays/Orioles/Indians/Yankees/Royals logjam.
