The Red Sox signed Andrew Millier to some unspecified, minimalist minor league contract.

Correction.... according to Baseball Reference:
37,800 in 1993
32,800 in 1994
23,900 in 1995
The Red Sox signed Andrew Millier to some unspecified, minimalist minor league contract.
No where did it say it was a MINOR league contract.
It's 1 year (as expected) for 1.04M
Plus an addl. 50,000 if he makes 20 starts and another 50,000 if he makes 25 starts.
Looks like Big Papi's sticking around for another year....

I think he chose it because NO ONE will offer anything remotely close to what he wants. At least with arbitration, he will have a 50-50 chance.
He'll get very good money for a one-year offer...
i heard wrong this morning on M&M. thought it was mentioned that the marlins were offering a no trade clause and that it was an insane idea. but if the cardinals at the very least match what miami is offering then i don't see why he would come here.much less if the cardinals exceed what miami is offering. que tu piensas papo?... the latest in the Lebron-esque bidding war between a a Miami team and the team where the player started!
- The Cardinals are meeting with Pujols' camp this morning, tweets MLB Network's Jon Heyman. Heyman believes the Marlins' ten-year offer is in the $200-220MM range.
- Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch writes that the Cardinals' newest offer to Pujols is believed to approach $220MM over 10 years. The Cards didn't place a deadline on their offer, and general manager John Mozeliak said this wouldn't necessarily be the club's final offer. Strauss is unsure if all 10 years are guaranteed, or if the tenth year involves some kind of option.

IMHO, the only thing stopping Albert from signing is that Miami is NOT offering a no-trade clause. IF not, he owuld have been a Marlin already....ESPECIALLY since they offering some part of the organization AFTER he retires.

The Miami Marlins are out of the running for free-agent superstar Albert Pujols, according to the New York Daily News.
The Marlins believe that Pujols and the St. Cardinals are "a few million dollars apart" and are likely to re-sign their All-Star first baseman, a source has told the Daily News. Miami, which has been among the most aggressive teams at the Winter Meetings this week, will likely turn their focus to free-agent first baseman Prince Fielder.
