The Red Sox signed Andrew Millier to some unspecified, minimalist minor league contract.

No where did it say it was a MINOR league contract.
It's 1 year (as expected) for 1.04M
Plus an addl. 50,000 if he makes 20 starts and another 50,000 if he makes 25 starts.

Nothing minimal and unspecified about it.

Plus another $5,000 if he keeps the kegs flowing in the Red Sox clubhouse!

Anyone notice that once Reyes moved to Miami, that Hanley Ramirez has come out and said he's NOT moving positions.

This is a typical Hanley move, dissension in the clubhouse already and they have only brought in one player at this point.

So, is Hanley traded before the season starts or does he come to his senses and move to where the team suggests ?

... the latest in the Lebron-esque bidding war between a a Miami team and the team where the player started!

- The Cardinals are meeting with Pujols' camp this morning, tweets MLB Network's Jon Heyman. Heyman believes the Marlins' ten-year offer is in the $200-220MM range.
- Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch writes that the Cardinals' newest offer to Pujols is believed to approach $220MM over 10 years. The Cards didn't place a deadline on their offer, and general manager John Mozeliak said this wouldn't necessarily be the club's final offer. Strauss is unsure if all 10 years are guaranteed, or if the tenth year involves some kind of option.

IMHO, the only thing stopping Albert from signing is that Miami is NOT offering a no-trade clause. IF not, he owuld have been a Marlin already....ESPECIALLY since they offering some part of the organization AFTER he retires.

Here's exciting Tribe news from winter meetings: Jack Hannahan's agent, Joe Speed, met with Tribe yesterday to agree to new deal! Welcome back Jack!!

i heard wrong this morning on M&M. thought it was mentioned that the marlins were offering a no trade clause and that it was an insane idea. but if the cardinals at the very least match what miami is offering then i don't see why he would come here.much less if the cardinals exceed what miami is offering. que tu piensas papo?

Well.... I heard from MLB Network...which by the way, has been awesome... that in lieu of offering a no trade clause, they have offered him some kind of stake/position with the team when he retires. THAT little added twist is what is stopping him from signing with St. Louis. I mean if you think about it, he ALREADY has veto clause after 5 years because he will be a 10/5 guy(10 years in the league, 5 with the same team in the current contract) and can veto any trade that the team wants to do involving him.

Personally, for the Latin American fans, it would be a HUGE coupe...but I say, sign Cespedes, CJ Wilson and Roy Oswalt instead and they immediately are almost as good as ANYONE in the National League.

Look at the line-up was THOSE signing MINUS Albert:

Everyday line-up

Reyes - SS
Bonafacio - 2b
Ramirez - 3b
Stanton - RF
Morrison - LF
Cespedes - CF
Sanchez - 1b
Buck - C

Starting Pitchers

Josh Johnson
CJ Wilson
Ricky Nolasco
Anibel Sanchez
Roy Oswalt

...and Heath Bell to close!

Are you kidding me...??!! LOL!

i think i may go see the marlins for the first time ever lol. maybe i'll see you there...... i'm interested in checking out the stadium

From SI.com:

The Miami Marlins are out of the running for free-agent superstar Albert Pujols, according to the New York Daily News.

The Marlins believe that Pujols and the St. Cardinals are "a few million dollars apart" and are likely to re-sign their All-Star first baseman, a source has told the Daily News. Miami, which has been among the most aggressive teams at the Winter Meetings this week, will likely turn their focus to free-agent first baseman Prince Fielder.
