I do not think that will happen.

They had very little stream of revenue due to the deal they had with the Dolphins and Pro Player/Sun Life Stadium...that will not be the case now.

Well see, they'll have to get there first.

Do they still have the same owners as they did back then ?

Well, I wish Reyes well. If the Mets win 70 games, that will be great for them. I dont see where the Mets try to get ANYBODY. If anything, Ive heard K-Rod might come back. Ive also heard that if Johan Santana comes back and pitches well, they trade him too. Theres been a lot of talk about how this is Minaya's fault all this is happening. Even if it is, the Mets have to do something because it will be a ghost town at Citi Field all year. Plus, with the Yankees and all there stars, the Mets have to do something but what that is, who knows.

Reyes may turn out to be a very good or a terrible signing for the Marlins...time will tell. The guy makes his living with his legs, he's had problems since he was young...and this contract brings him toward the end of his career.

For the Mets, it was time to cut bait with Reyes and all the ancillary issues he brings. I agree the problem as that they may not use that cost savings on players...but if they do, pitching is the way to go.

IF...and I am still doubtful they will...IF they sign Pujols...look for some kind of Gabby Sanchez for Gio Gonzales deal not to far after...OR, IF you hear of the trade BEFORE..then the deal for Pujols is just about done.

Here is some more for you Jimbo:

People keep asking him: Where's the money coming from? Well, pay attention, folks. You don't need to be Alan Greenspan to figure this out.

For the entire life of the franchise, they've been stuck playing baseball in a football stadium that changed names every 45 minutes, where they had the worst lease deal in baseball. Now, thanks to the new ballpark, their revenues are about to explode. And they're still on the revenue-sharing handout line, for another year anyway.

Meanwhile, their roster is stuffed with young guys who work cheap. And before this week, only one player on the whole team (Hanley Ramirez) was signed beyond 2013.

So think about this. This team is perfectly positioned to double the payroll next year because that payroll was so low in the first place. Then it's just as well-positioned to spread out its investment in a Reyes here and a Pujols there because it has so few other long-term commitments.

It's the perfect storm.

Albert Pujols just another piece of Miami Marlins' master plan - ESPN

WOW.... Winter meetings started in Dallas and the word from BOTH the MLB Network AND ESPN that now... the Marlins are the frontrunner for Albert Pujols because supposedly inside sources state the Cards will not go higher than their original offer and the Marlins offer...which supposedly is around 9 years $225 million and better than the Cards offer.

...*gulp*...

..and the scary part is...IF that happens, that Marlins, with all that money flying all over the place...would be "only" around the $125 million mark in payroll.

Scary and exciting times down here.

Miscalculation on my part...IF they were to get Pujols, they will be barely over the $100 million payroll range...not the $125 million that I thought...that is a HUGE difference.

Quietly, the Marlins are projecting an average attendance of 30,000 a game next season. Privately, they haven't ruled out pushing the payroll close to $100 million. This is shocking stuff for a team that averaged 19,000 customers a game last season and has never inflated its payroll beyond $60 million -- ever.

WOW...I think ...no...I KNOW that I love the "hot stove season" MORE than the regular season!!!

It has now been reported that the Marlins have now offered Pujols a 10 year contract with the total price tag of somewhere OVER $220 for the life of the contract! Now, the interesting news is that more than likely, it will NOT contain a 'no trade' option and it is heavy in the 1st 5 years, it will average in the $25-27 million a year average...and the final 5, around the $15-17 million a year.

ESPN and the MLB network is reporting that is better than 50-50 chance the Marlins have landed Phat Albert.

But wait, there is MORE....

Reports out of St. Louis is that they will try to counter that offer with a 10 year contract of their own as soon as they have the full details of the contract offer from the Marlins. Supposedly, when they offered their contract offer, it was for 8 years at approx. $22 million a year back in spring training.

This is CRAZY!

So basically this new stadium is giving the Marlins a ton of revenue? Im no account so forgive me for sounding ignorant. If this new stadium gives them revenue or the money to buy the top players then I can understand why owners say "Build me a new stadium or I'll move".

The only thing I dont understand is that how does the Marlins front office know that people are going to show up? When the Marlins were good and in the wild card race etc. it didnt seem like people were showing up? What if the samething happens again? The Marlins are good yet nobody goes to the games?

What people do not understand is that the Marlins, while leasing the Dolphins Stadium...had THE WORST deal in all of baseball:

- They get ALL monies from tickets expect skyboxes, which they must give up around 30%
- Partial monies from parking(50% goes to the Dolphins)
- NO MONIES from consessions
- and 25% of all baseball related sales went to the Dolphins

They are now getting ALL those monies. Something they never had. Also, as posted earlier, for at least this season and the next, they will still be part of the low end teams that get more of the revenue sharing mulah...that means possibly an additional $25 million a year. Not to mention, after the 2013 season, as of now...only Hanley, Bell and Josh Johnson will have a contract past the 2013 season. That open up the flood gates even more to more possible signing, extentiona and arbritration cases.

At the present times, they have estimated they have sold about 25,000 season tickets(full season, partial season...which I bought, and 20 game packages). They will have no issues averaging about 30-34,000 a night with a abll park that holds approx. 38,000.

It'll be interesting to see if they actually DO avg over 30,000 nightly.

Is that their break even point ?
I hope not.

Of course if Pujols doesn't come then that number would go down.

19,000 per game last year???? LOL. No way that is true.

baseball-reference shows Florida attendance in 81 games
Ballparks: Sun Life Stadium · Attendance: 1,477,462 (16th of 16)

averages to 18250 a game...regardless they have finished last in NL in attendance last 5 years

I willing to challenge that. The excitement of the 1st year of a new stadium will have that stadium averaging 30,000 without a doubt. The 2nd year, they will need to win.

The 1st year the Marlins were in the league, they averaged approx. 35,000 per game.
