Yep. Marlins are making some good moves and looks like they are serious about putting a winning team with a chance to compete in their new stadium instead of just relying on the new stadium mystique to attract fans.
More than likely Pujols will stay with the Cards, but the Marlins are probably the most likely team to get him if he leaves the Cards. I still see them not only getting a front line starter to go with a good lead off guy/short stop and a top closer they just picked up, but also another power bat, Pujols, Fielder, or a power hitting outfielder.

At Albert's age, I would not give him 9 years.WOW.... Winter meetings started in Dallas and the word from BOTH the MLB Network AND ESPN that now... the Marlins are the frontrunner for Albert Pujols because supposedly inside sources state the Cards will not go higher than their original offer and the Marlins offer...which supposedly is around 9 years $225 million and better than the Cards offer.
...*gulp*...
..and the scary part is...IF that happens, that Marlins, with all that money flying all over the place...would be "only" around the $125 million mark in payroll.
Scary and exciting times down here.
This is not a slam at Salsa or his team. But, I wonder how teams who have given the Marlins "welfare" checks over the years feel about them signing these big money contracts now. Especially the Mets, who have now lost a player to a team they kept afloat.
