5 losses in a row...7 and 9 since the break. Looks like the Pirates might be going back to old habits.. @#$%

I wonder if their present swoon can be tied back to that 19 inning "loss(?)" against the Braves last week? What should have been the highest point of the Pirates season, with the "Let's go Pirates" girl in left field cheering them on,to have it all end with such a questionable call, maybe it just broke their spirit for a while.

SCALPED!!!

For the life of me, I have no idea why Manny Acta is so hellbent on yanking his starting pitchers so early in the games! David Huff was rolling, until he got yanked in the 6th. Then errors and the bullpen blew the lead. Close game though. Would've been nice for Huff (just sent down to the minors to make room for Jimenez) to squeak one out against Beckett.

No doubt, Huff pitched a great game. But in Acta's defense, Huff was up to 102 pitches through five innings. That's one thing about the Red Sox lineup whether they're hitting or not, they'll make a pitcher expand a lot of pitches over a relatively short time.

On a side note to last night's game: Kevin Youkilis could have cost the Sox a W last night because of his insistence on arguing any call that doesn't go his way! The Sox are just lucky that Youk's spot in the order didn't come around again, after he got ejected.

First, the call could have gone either way. To me, it was not an obvious swing. Second, Gerry Davis is known to have a quick hook. Youk complained about the call, but did walk straight to the dugout. He didn't get ejected until after he got to the dugout.

I just wish Youk- and Ortiz for that matter- would pick his battles a little more judiciously. He argues anything that doesn't go his way. Maybe if he didn't do that it would give him a little more credibility arguing, and he would get the benefit of the doubt on an "either way" type call.

Listen, I love Youk and Papi's passion for the game....all they want to do is WIN!! They don't have the apathetic demeanor that J.D. Drew brings to the ballpark every night. BUT I just wish they would stop arguing everything that doesn't go their way. There is a happy medium between Youk/Papi and Drew..........his name is Dustin Pedroia! :)

Wakefield is going for his 200th win tonight and whenever he gets it, he will set a record as the oldest player to do so. A couple games ago, after he had rung up his career 2,000th strikeout, the manager left him in for one more inning than he should have, just to get him one more standing ovation, and he got it... after surrendering three singles and a grand slam to the four batters he faced. The Sox lead 2-0, and if Wakefield completes five innings with a safe cushion, look for him to get the hook this time.

So your saying he can't pitch well enough to go 7 or 8 ?

There's a saying that you never want a knuckleballer pitching for you and you never want one pitching against you. Wakefield's job is to eat innings and keep the other starters on their schedule, so once he had a big lead after six, he should have been pulled in favor of Aceves, and since the manager doesn't want egg on his face again, if he has a big lead after five or six tonight, he will have earned his applause and early shower.

If they can keep his pitch count down tonight, he'd be available to bail out Lackey in long relief Saturday, or Miller on Monday.

And tonight, he has a no-hitter through three innings.

Well, he's thru 6, only given up 2 runs, probably done, maybe 1 more inning, he's thrown 91 pitches, but thats not that bad for a knuckleballer.

The Red Sox have three LEGITIMATE MVP candidates (at least the way it's currently trending).

The problem with one team having more than one MVP candidate is that it tends to split their votes. Granderson is having one hell of an offensive year AND he plays a more valuable and demanding defensive position than Gonzo does. But then, Robby Cano might siphon off some votes from him.

-Interesting stat from last nights Indians @ Red Sox Game: Last night's game set a record for most in attendance (38,477) at a Red Sox game since post WWII. That is just crazy to me. Not a Red Sox/ Yankees contest, but against the Indians? Cool.

-Masterson seems out to prove the Red Sox made a mistake in trading him. Masterson raised his Fenway record to 10-2. He is 15-33 everywhere else. He is also 3-0 against the Red Sox.

-Good to get the split in this 4 game series. The Indians always seems to play well in Fenway for whatever reason. Even in our two losses, there was only a 1 run differential.

-Ubaldo Jimenez makes his CLE debut tonight against Texas.
