...The Red Sox are batting .500 (13 for 26) through five innings. ...

...and today, they're hitting .500 (10 for 20) through four innings. Man, those Royals are a poor excuse for a major league baseball team.

You know how you know your team sucks? Bruce Chen is in the starting rotation.

You know how you know that your team is good? You have a 64-38 record despite John Whack-Me taking the ball every five days!

I'll say this: the Red Sox have a VERY special 1 through 6 batting order!

Sox are now 18-4 this month.

Terrible call. Especially with the throw beating him by that much and the call determining the outcome of a 19 inning game. Ump must've had a hooker lined up or something for that night and was thinking he could still get in on it.

Oh well...the life of a Pirates fan is never easy. Let's go Bucs!

And I stayed up and watched the game. It would of been different if they hit a home run to win but this was terrible.

ESPN.com's MLB video recap introduces the Red Sox/KC highlights under the banner, Lack-is-back, and touts his recent 4-0 record during which is ERA was under 3.00. Who in his right mind thinks Lack is back? In those four games he gave up 32 hits in just 23 innings, and the opponents were the three worst teams in the league, KC, Seattle and Baltimore, and Tampa Bay, a team that has been going backwards for nearly a month now. When I have time later tonight, I'll try to figure the batting average against him in those four wins, but I'm sure it was well above .300
.

32 hits in 23 innings would be .464 OUCH! Can't imagine what the OBP or WHIP is.

Your seat-of-the pants methodology is erroneous. You counted the number of outs per inning pitched againts as the number of at bats, but to that, you must add the hits plus the times a batter reached on an error, and then subtract the number of sacrifice flys and double plays. Phew. Last night, KC went 11 for 29 against him, for a batting average of .373. The other three games are not quite a bad, but almost as bad.

McCann (Now on DL) is hitting .306, Freddy Freeman is hitting .287 and Prado is hitting .270 but has missed 25 games. No other Brave regular is hitting above .260. Uggla .205, Gonzalez .228, Outfield is hitting .222, .231, and .240. Yet the Braves are 17 games over .500. How important is pitching in the big leagues? Iif these guys ever hit, how good can this team be?

That's why the Braves are trailing the Phillies. However,I remember how many times the Braves had the best record, the best pitching, the best hitting & still couldn't get past the first round in the playoffs.

Yeah, but two things are different now. Bobby Cox is gone (lousy with bullpen in postseason) and the Braves have the best bullpen in baseball at this time. Braves need a bat or two.

Could not hit out of a wet paper bag, but the the Padres still have the best bullpen in the league.

Tim Wakefield is going for career win number 200 tonight. The good news is, he has a one-hit shutout through five innings. The bad news is, he's Tim Wakefield...

I feel sorry for teams that can't afford to carry a payroll of $160 million a year. Not a lot sorry, but a little sorry.

Well, you must feel sorry got the majority of the teams, theres only a few that are over that mark.

You got NY, Boston, Philly, there are others that could if they wanted to, but don't.
Thats about all the bigger the list would be, off the top of my head.
OK, you can add the Mets, but I doubt that they WANT to be in that catagory.
The Dodger use to be able to be in that area, IF they chose to.

Edit:

I would imagine that these were at the Start of the current season.
Huge disparity from the $ 160M mark and the NEXT one and the rest.
