Since we've seen the quieter, more civil side of Mark Cuban, and how much the Mavs love him as an owner, you would think most Dodger fans would approve:

Los Angeles Dodgers intrigue Mark Cuban despite 'mess' - ESPN

Oh, I'm sure Dodger nation would approve, but I'm not sure MLB would. Doesn't the Commish have something against Cuban? He's blocked him trying to purchase a franchise in the past, right? Hasn't he tried to purchase the Pirates in the past?

I was referring to HD MM's comment about Cuban trying to buy the Pirates....not what he wants to do now

Terrific 4th and final inning for Lackey today:

BB
HBP
bunt single
K
BB
HBP
WP
single to right

4 runs on 2 hits.

All that for only $15 million this year...and next year... and the year after that...

Wakefield meanwhile, continues to be a $2 million bargain. Between Dice-K's operation, Buckholz's back, Beckett's assorted frailties, Aceves's inconsistencies and Lackey's chronic suckiness, look for Wakefield to get at least fifteen more starts this year.

There was talk that he was wanting to buy the Cubs back when they were up for sale.
I too think had Cuban been allowed to buy the Cubs it would have been a HUGE boost for the Cubs and they would be well on thier way to respectability.

I thought he wanted the Cubs

Upon further research, it doesn't look like Cuban has ever bid on the Pirates ownership. The rumors that he would be interested in saving that franchise stem from the fact that Cuban was born and raised in a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA. He has however unsuccessfully bid on the ownership of both the Cubs and Texas Rangers.

I made my first trip to PNC Park yesterday. What a beautiful ballpark and the ushers and other stadium personnel were as nice and as accommodating as I have ever seen.Only downside was the traffic after the game with game, casino and regular rush hour traffic.

The one thing you gotta love about Cuban is that he allows the basketball people he hires to do their job. He may have final say, but he does not meddle in the entire process.

Which would work GREAT for baseball too.

However, as was mentioned the other day on the MLB Network, a NBA ownership works and pay a LOT less people than a baseball ownership, personal wise.

Salsa,
I like you Sig, would like to borrow part of it for the Buckeyes !

so we thought we'd get the 'hate on' early...

Seeing how most feel about them over the last year.

Lost track, who we talking about here ?

The Marlins...approx. 1 month ago, with Hanley hovering at the Mendoza line and Josh Johnson on the DL, the Marlins were 1 game behind Philly and if my mind serves me correct, they were 32-22.... 2-22 since.

I have no exclusive rights... It's a quote from a reporter....knock yourself out! ;-)

The prodigal son returns to Pittsburgh tonight. Tim Wakefield has a no hitter through the first two innings. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Wakefield started his career in Pittsburgh, going 8-1 and finishing 3rd in the Rookie of the year voting. But the next year, he lost it completely and was sent down to Triple A, where he temporarily got it together and came back to the majors and finished the season and his Pittsburgh career with back-to-back, complete game shutouts.

Wakefield would never pitch for the Pirates again. He has a horrible preseason and was banished again to Triple-A, where this time he was the worst pitcher at that level, leading all of Triple A in homers allowed and losses, and having the worst earned run average. Pittsburgh let him go after that, so the Red Sox signed him as a free agent sixteen years ago and the rest is history.
