Another great outing by Josh Beckett. CG, 1 hit, 0 walks. His ERA dropped to 1.86

It's kinda expected, after all it is an odd numbered year...

What an awful last 20 games for the Florida Marlins, best position player(Hanley) and best pitcher(Josh Johnson) go on the DL and they have lost 17 of 20!

WHAT happened to all these arms they were SUPPOSEDLY stock piling?! They make no major trades so WHO is minding the store in the minor leagues...???!!!:mad::rant::rant:

I wonder how many people watched this past 8pm? A few hundred maybe. This could of been the least talked about perfect game ever.

Damn Yankees keep winning, though.

I agree. The infield hit he allowed was in the 3rd inning, so it's not like there was drama at the end. I switched back to the Sox game between periods and commercials. Plus, the game was over by 9:30. Only 2:20 for a Red Sox game!!!

Gas Man Papelbon, called in to protect a two-run lead, has just given up hits to the first two batters he has faced in the bottom of the ninth. Stay tuned...

Are you a Red Sox fan? Or just a cynic?

Is there a difference? Here is a post from a Red Sox fan commenting on an article that purported to laud the Red Sox for their exceptional recent play in today's Boston Herald:

The outfield depth you have if Coco Crawford is out for an extended period of time(after a MRI revealed he has a grade 1 strain in his left hamstring,it appears he will be)is Mcdonald .138 AVG & Cameron .150 AVG....with Dice-k sidelined the next 12-14 months after undergoing Tommy-John surgery,Wakefield has stepped into his spot in the rotation & has done a commendable job so far, although considering Tim's age(44)& the fact he has broken down the last 4 seasons due to an asortment of injurys the odds of him finishing this year without suffering another setback is between slim & none.....if Buchholz is placed on the DL the caliber of the teams starting pitching will certainly decline as Miller(a broken down reclamation project)& Dubrount(injury prone & unproven)will not come close to taking his place in the rotation.

This is surprising:

Doesn't bode well for him to get another managerial gig when he quits like that....

Florida Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez resigns amid losing skid - ESPN

He did the right thing. Nothing was working...his best pitcher and hitter on the DL. NOW, his leaderoff and more or less his 2nd best hitter on the DL.

In the end, the players did a complete 180 and more likely, he was gonna get blamed for it. Coming into June, they were 2 games behind Philly and 10 games above .500.

Q: What in the world happened to Hanley Ramirez?! Just a year or so ago, wasn't he supposed to be the next best thing in baseball?! Now he's barely sniffing a .200 batting average. In the NL.

My point was that career-wise it would have been better if he was fired, as opposed to quitting. Managers/coaches who get fired get re-hired all the time. Managers/coaches who quit usually aren't heard from again, at least in those prominent positions....

Their replacement...... some 80-year-old who hasn't coached since Nixon was in office!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wasn't this the year the Marlins HAD to build momentum since they will be moving into their new stadium next year? Tax payers must be miffed.

Right now, there is no other choice...especially when you are at the mid year point. And 2ndly, that 80 year old came in the midway point in 2003 and lead them to a World Series. Now I HIGHLY doubt that he can do that again...but some players need a serious ASS KICKING...and this old man can do it!
