And I respect Rose....but he is still an a$$....lol.

What he did to Fosse was a douche move. Par for the course for him though, must of had money on the game.

The Cleveland Indians are presently riding the longest losing streak in the American League and second longest in baseball.

... I'll take his play any day of the week.
Wold you take it in 1985? Rose as manager installed himself as the every day first baseman while slugging a woeful .395, which was the lowest of any first baseman in the league, just to enable himself to finaly break Ty Cobbs career hit record. Several of his teammates were pissed at him that year for playing himself, to the disadvantage of the team.

The Red Sox now lead the Yankees by a full game, having accomplished perhaps the fastest "worst-to-first" turnaround in baseball history.

If I am not mistaken, Dan Driessen was a legit 1st baseman with some power that was either benched or traded for the streak or maybe to hedge his bets...the world will never know.

I see that Driessen was traded on August 1, 1984, and since Rose became manager for the final 41 games of that season, the trade must have occurred about two weeks before he became manager. Still, since Cincinnatti was about 20 games under .500 at the time and drawing just 18,000 a game, they probably were throwing in the towel at that point and doing what they could to assure late season attendance.

I would accept that argument if he actually put up legit numbers and went on to become a somewhat legit player, but since most baseball fans never heard of him it may have been a smart move putting himself at first over this "legit" first baseman

Dan Driessen was the "DH" for the Reds during the World Series against the Yankees. The Reds then traded Tony Perez so Driessen could become their full time 1st baseman. That pretty much started the decline of the Reds. Speaking of Rose,I can't remember if it was the season the Reds went to the World Series against the Oakland A's or the next year when the Mets went against the A's,but I remember the playoffs between the Reds & the Mets when Rose did something,I think he tried to take out the Mets' 2nd baseman during a slide,& it almost caused a riot at Shea Stadium. The fans were pelting Rose in the outfield with trash,& I'm pretty sure bottles. The Reds had to leave the field until order was restored.

BULL ....

There was NOTHING ILLEGAL about the hit Rose put on Fosse.

IF you remember, the montra back then was "Let play to WIN" the game, instead of just being an exhibition.

ASG 's get very ho hum when you don't play to win.

Granted, it ruined Fosse's career, unfortunately... but there is nothing wrong with playing HARD and HUSTLING.

A couple days ago you were against contact between a runner and a catcher, now you seem to be for it. Was it a change of heart, or does it depend on the players involved??

I never had a problem with the Possey play.
As far as I'm concerned, it's all part of the game, I THOUGHT he used his forearm during the play (runner) and didn't like that, but over all the play was fine.

Tigers and Sox to play two tomorrow.

The 1:05 game will be televised on NESN. The 7:05 game will not be televised as ESPN Sunday Night baseball has exclusivity for that time.

I had just posted the DH in the AL Central thread, but didn't include the times ....
So, once again we MISS ANOTHER Tigers game due to stupid blackout rules.
Saturday AND SUNDAY, just great .... thanks FOX AND ESPN AND MLB that signed to agree to these terms.
Hope the MONEY was good for you.

BTW, the MLB Network game is B.O., but the alt. channel has the Yanks and Mariners showing, at least here.

Looks like we get to MISS the Verlander Start, he'll probably throw another GEM and no one will see it. :(

Or , it will be like his last one and no one will WAN'T to see it ... :)

Fwiw, it's a game MANY may want to see, a Verlander vs Beckett matchup, thanks again B.O. participants.

What games to you plan to show us that will be a better amtch up ?

This was the main reason I JB my iPad. I put location faker on it, set up a location in another country, and am now able to watch any game, including the FOX Saturday games
