Just received this email:

Thank you for your interest in the online DVR timer scheduling trial! To participate in this trial, you must first agree to the following conditions and reply back with your acceptance.
Trial Software

To participate in this trial, your ViP622 DVR or ViP722 DVR receiver must be targeted with trial software. This is software that is still under development. While every effort is made to ensure the software is functioning properly, your receiver may have unexpected behavior while using trial software.

Potential issues that may occur include:
  • Receiver may unexpectedly reset itself.
  • Timers may not occur as expected, including not occurring at all, recording the incorrect events, recording for the wrong duration, or other timer problems.
  • Loss of recorded events, including loss of recorded events from an external hard disk drive (if connected).
  • Other issues not listed here.

While your receiver will temporarily have trial software, participation in this trial does not constitute your enrollment as an EchoStar Software Tester. Once the online DVR timer scheduling feature is released to the public, your satellite receiver will once again have the production software provided to all ViP622 DVR and ViP722 DVR receivers.
DishONLINE.com Account

To use the online DVR timer scheduling feature, you must create an account through www.DishONLINE.com. There is no charge to create a DishONLINE.com account, but you will need to enter your DISH Network account number, which allows your receiver to be securely accessed over the Internet.
If You Experience Issues

If you have questions about or experience issues using the online DVR timer feature, please use the EchoStar Communications Corporation email address, and include “Online Timer Trial” in the subject line. We ask that you not contact the DISH Network Customer Service Center with questions about the online DVR timer scheduling feature during the trial period.
Confidentiality and Integrity

Please remember that by replying with your acceptance, you are agreeing to participate in the trial and to adhere to strict confidentiality. DISH Network may disclose to participants certain confidential and proprietary information that is to be handled in a sensitive manner. We do ask that our participants adhere to confidentiality and provide honest feedback on their experiences.
Acceptance

If you accept these conditions, please reply back to this email with your account number and receiver id. You must reply by Thursday Nov 15 by 1:00pm MST to participate. After we receive your acceptance, your ViP622 DVR or ViP722 DVR will receive a special software version. It may take up to one week before your ViP622 DVR or ViP722 DVR receiver has the trial software. We will send you an email notifying you when this occurs. This email will also include instructions to get started with online DVR timer scheduling.

Thank you for your support of DISH Network!

Sincerely,

DishONLINE

That's what it sounds like.... dangerous as a cocked pistol

As a SW developer, the disclaimer sounds about right! :)

Enough of a headache testing (beta & otherwise) at work - not about to sign up to do it for free for E*. Especially on the DVR that my wife uses!

Kinda like... you test my software and if it breaks your equipment, I told you so.

What a bunch of poo-poo
Heh, that kind of disclaimer is used in "final" release software and software you pay for !! Of course, NO ONE reads the T&C, they just "Next, Next, Next, Finish".

I was invited also, if any consumer was a beta tester, then we should get some form of payment. The software designers don't work for free. Gimme a year of service for free because most of my archived dvr events and timers don't even work anymore. Plus give me my own 622 or 722 and not pay a lease fee anymore.

Invited ? And you want payment ? Let me get this straight: You signed up, i.e. volunteered, for this and if they take you up on your offer, you want some sort of payment ? I think you need to reply back and tell them that you expect payment for taking part in this.

And...... how is this any different than what we already have?

well i think the difference is they are trying to get some testing done before they inflict it on all of us. So one step forward in my opinion:up
My difficulty is, as someone posted, my dvr's are "production" systems so if they fail i have one very unhappy "she who must be obeyed" :(
Now if they offered, aint likely to happen, a "test" box for me to test on, I would run parrallel testing for them.

I think that I'm going to pass on this chance to beta test. Usually I would jump at the chance, but I really don't want to lose any of my recordings. Especially those on the USB drive.

If dish wants me to be a beta tester, and I lose some of my timers or recorded programs on my receiver HD and ext HD. Also if I was recording any progam and receiver resets and I had some PPV sports or movies that became erased dish would just say sorry your SOL, we can't give you any free PPV coupons.MONEY MONEY MONEY they'll take all the can.

Why are so many of you making a big deal about this test?

We're testing software every time they upgrade our receivers with so called "final releases".

I am VERY happy that Dish is making these betas available to all of us. This is a big step forward for Echostar and is something I pushed hard for. I wanted Dish to make these test open to all and not to just one site (as has happened in the past) I have actually talked at leanght about this with Charlie, Mark Jackson and a few others and am happy that they have made this open to all.

Kudos to Echostar!

Beta tester... This is the norm. If you do not want to participate, just don't. I did not even volunteer for it because I did not want anything to do with affecting my current dvr. This thread is useless since you are given a choice. You either agree or leave it.

That’s exactly what my 622 is doing now! Maybe E* has downloaded the trail software to my machine without telling me.

I did not volunteer.

So has anyone that has responded to the acceptance invite heard anything more? I received it and responded 2 days but have received no further communication. Just wondering if anyone else has received a 2nd follow-up.

There's nothing in the disclaimer that is out of line - it's beta and it may mess up. They're just covering their legal bases -- WARNING Hot Coffee: Contents may be Hot. At least they're testing this one, if the risk is too great to you, don't test it.

Now not to be foolish, if it's someting critical to my wife and I want to remain in one piece, I'll record it on the 510 too.

Hey, go to the hospital for surgery and read their disclaimer - that one includes death:eek: as one of the possibilities.
