High Def Disc unit sales - The Digital Bits

And the promotion designed so that the copy of Open Season was first scanned as a "sale", and then discounted to $0.00 with the PS3 purchase - perfectly padding the numbers.
Creative Accounting 101.
Or is it Brainwashing 101... :p

Now the interesting question is: Have they done this before?

And wouldn't this qualify as "big ass, fat, stupid lie"...

Diogen.

From Home Media Magazine:

Software units sales ratios as of 12/2/07:
Week ending .........Blu-ray 58.......HD-DVD 42
YTD:....................Blu-ray 65.......HD-DVD 35
Since inception:.....Blu-ray 62.......HD-DVD 38

Normalized to make comparison with previous postings easier:
Week ending .........Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 72
YTD:....................Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 54
Since inception:.....Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 61

With millions of PS3's sold the attach rate must be horrible, and considering how the BOGO offer can skew the numbers, studios like Warner may not want to bet their future on a game console.

Or they may want to go with the format that is selling more discs. You never know...

I know what you're saying nonrev but I IMHO you're overthinking things.

1) There are more Blu-Ray players on the market
2) Blu-Ray is outselling HD-DVD every single week
3) Nearly every title released on both formats sells more on Blu-Ray

You can speculate that the points above may change in the future but that is the situation right now.

More players on the market, BOGO every week and that 2:1 software sales ratio just doesn't increase. Bluray, not only is it incomplete but it's stagnet.

Next week HD-DVD players 50$ each!
If HD-DVD's attach rate was soooooooooo good, why aren't they beating Blu-ray in disc sales?
1...
2........
3..................
:(
Thats what I thought! :D

Hmm, sales numbers increased to HD-DVD. Wasn't that the week Amazon did a B2G1 for HD-DVD?

No one cares about all this stuff. The VAST majority of people own neither and never will. I've had Dish network for over ten years and bought a DVD player when they first hit about $500, and I haven't even thought about buying either of these things.

These formats are both great examples of the End of The Line for an old technology.

People are happy with DVD and online digital delivery will be the next real format.

Probably. In ten years, when we have enough bandwidth in this country to support it. Until then, I'm still buying discs.

76:24 this week, OUCH.

POTC3 did much better than my opinion of the movie. I wonder if its because its new, many who own the first 2 may not buy them again.

I guess HP5 will blow the others out of the water.

I only purchased it (in BD) because I already owned the other 2 and wanted to complete the set, otherwise it would have been a NetFlix rental.

Honestly, that seems a little low to me. Were there any good HD-DVD releases last week?

Nope, planet earth is their big seller again. Im really wanting to see potter 5 numbers

I'm just saying, you would think, given the fact that they have been at least 2:1 and were (IIRC) 2.65:1 the week prior, that it would have been higher than 3:1 in the week that POTC3 came out....
