Got My Hopper w/Sling Replacement for 1st Gen Hopper Today (Observations)

The nice thing about T-Mobile is that with my factory unlocked iPhone I don't even have to jailbreak to get tethering (will be jailbreaking as soon as they release one for iOS 6 though.) They also have unlimited plans so I don't have to worry about data usage either :D .

Yeah I'm unlimited on Att and could pay to tether but not worth it. I bet if you used that much data they may say something even if you have unlimited data, or at least that's what Att does.

I don't pay for tethering, since my iPhone is unlocked there's nothing that T-Mobile can do to stop it ;) . I don't usually use a lot of mobile data, as long as I can stream Sling/Netflix, view forums, text message, etc. that's all I really want. I haven't pushed the usage to the max but T-Mobile never throttles or has problems with my data usage. They're not like AT&T where "grandfathered unlimited" users are punished/throttled for tethering and/or using 2GB or more of data per month...

Perhaps we are a tad off-topic? :)

Yeah, kinda stinks now. My friend got throttled a few months back and said it made Internet usage almost not possible because it was so slow.

I see this got derailed a bit, but I did want to report back.

The iPad functionality is great. The speed is unbelievable. If you have an iPad and desire to take programming with you (especially if you have the wi-fi only model like me), this upgrade is WELL worth the $200.

Great product.

Thanks for the review and info!

I want to upgrade but think i'll wait until next year since ill be pretty close to my two year contract ending. That way I can see what deal dish can offer me to stay. I've been with dish since march of last year.

As with any technology, the early adopter usually pay a lot more. I remember when flat-screen TV's came out, what cost $3000 5 years ago, you can get for $400 today.

I suggest to everyone that they hold off on shelling out $200+ for one, I was actually quoted $300.

I bet within a year, they will have a $99 deal or something.

To anyone with the HWS, how quickly does the receiver tune the SirusXm channels? My hopper takes 6-7 seconds, kind of makes it a pita to browse different channels.

Also, does upgrading extend your contract another 24 months, 24 months minus how long you been a customer, or not at all?

Are you saying it takes 6-7 seconds before picture appears, but the banner changes right away? My HWS takes about the same time as my original Hopper but I've never paid much attention to it.

Yes, an upgrade starts a new 2 year agreement from the date that the work order is completed.

$99 for which box? The HWS? I might have to spring for that. One old Hopper (since I have a Sling adapter) and one new Hopper, and no Joeys and I'll be a happy camper.

You never know... ;) . Patience can pay off. One thing's for sure. I'll be glad when you finally upgrade :p .

When I tune to a sirusxm channel, it takes a full 6-7 seconds for the picture and audio to appear.

Chances are your deal wont be a whole lot different just because you're out of contract. If you wanted to do a little experiment though you could ask what kind of deal you can get now and then wait till your contract is up and ask again to see if the offer changed.

As much as I want to get one ill wait because the hopper 3 might have more tuners, it'll be faster as far as the processor etc goes. I've been reading up on it and am happy with what I have now. Like others have said, I can't see shelling out 150-200.00 for it. If it was totally redesigned with more tuners , memory, better ventilation then it might be worth it to. I just wish it had a list view.
