Just chatted with Directv about getting another genie client for my basement tv. Did you guys have to pay for the unit, plus pay to have it installed? I hooked up the client I have now.

It depends on what your situation is with DirecTV.

We've been with them for well over a decade and it had been about 4 years since we had upgraded to a previous-generation HD DVR. Therefore, we were able to get the Genie HR44 for free (with contract, of course). When I tried a year earlier, they wanted to charge me about $500 for the same setup; we didn't need what Genie offered that badly, so we waited, and it paid off.

A word of caution regarding DirecTV gear. Since all clients are charged as leases by DirecTV, think through how you want your setup to look for the foreseeable future, as any equipment changes will require a new, two-year contract to be signed. This includes Genie minis, wireless or wired.

200.00 bucks to add a genie client, man what a joke. Ebay here I come.
Wouldn't everything on ebay Also be a LEASED unit ....

$200 for a client does sound ridiculous though ...
I can barely justify that money for a HD DVR, at least that way your gaining tuners and a separate unit thats not depended on the Geine.

I suspect the OP was asking for a wireless client, which is $99 , plus $99 for the wireless bridge and installation.

Yeah directv wanted upgrade fee $50, Genie mini $99, installation fee of $49. If I would of known that when I signed up I would have gotten a 2nd client then. Looks like they have plenty on other websities.
