Free Hopper Upgrades

Looks like DISH is having a special on Hopper upgrades... FREE and includes a free iPad 2. Not too bad of a deal. If you have been sitting on the sidelines this might be your chance to hop in the water! (And the water is fine) :) http://www.dish.com/dishdeals/hopper-deals/

Hey Scott, you may know this but there is a quote from you on the dish page you linked

Judging from their Twitter post I thought it was for current customers since it calls it an UPGRADE. I apologize if this is not the case, I do know we have a number of members on the fence about upgrading... so I thought this would be good to pass along. :D

I'm sure technically the Hopper is an upgrade from most other cable/sat boxes, but still.
That's very likely what Dish could claim - that they consider the Hopper (and Dish service) an "upgrade" from all other providers. In reality though, it's probably a typo (or they copy and pasted text from a previous promotion and forgot to fix it).

Dish has always used that wording and it always confuses customers. I've told Dish at Team Summit before to take it out of their marketing because it does nothing but confuse people.

Basically Dish is saying you can get the newest equipment for no extra cost. Usually when Dish has new equipment come out you have to pay an upgrade fee to get it. Eventually they will make it available at no cost and advertise it as being a free upgrade. The problem is, when you see the word upgrade you think of an existing customer upgrading current equipment.
