Dish Hopper Pricing Rumors Thread

So if I want one hopper and 3 joeys the cost should be $14 a month plus $10 DVR fee. What about pricing for the MoCA bridge? Any other fees I’m missing?

I'm assuming that there's no way they'll just ship the equipment to me and let me set it up myself.

It was stated that the DVR fee is $6 + $4 for "whole house fee", which probably means the MoCA bridge.

Could you ask her if they for sure will let customers with RV VIPs keep them with a Hopper in the house? If she doesn't know she can at least take the issue back to the mothership.

Does not appear that will happen, unless 2 accounts are being used. Check out the screen shot from the frequently asked questions about the tail gater.

That's unfortunate. That will keep me from getting one. We haul our 211 back and forth to the lake on weekends during the summer. I'm not getting a second acct for a receiver that is only used a few hours on the weekends for 5 months a year. The rest of the time I use it daily in my home office.

I think this was among the rumors for the last month, that they wouldn't be allowing mixed acct setups of regular receivers and hopper/joey's.

I hope this is true - if so I will actually be saving some by replacing my 722K and 211K with one Hopper and one Joey. And if the upgrade is free for existing customers with a 200 or higher package it will be even better!

I completely agree with not paying for a second account. I'm thinking that a 2nd hopper and a node/switch should be able to give folks like yourself that option of tailgating so to speak. My only concern is if dish has some way of disabling it, if it doesn't see/communicate with the network. If a setup like that works I wonder what the upfront fee would be for a 2nd hopper?

I don't see why she couldn't discuss costs at this point....
Because until they've available and/or being supplied, the pricing can change. Putting numbers in the document referenced above doesn't make it cast in stone. They can change it up until the moment they start offering them.

If the two Hopper option isn't available upon release I will be waiting until if/when it is.
I only need the standard 1+1 setup but there are two special issues (perhaps unique to me) that need working solutions:

1. Non-MoCA LAN connections (what coax I have is used for OTA TV and FM radio reception that is incompatible with low-band MoCA). I've got lots of CAT5 bandwidth.
2. Functioning OTA support (at least one ATSC tuner).

Until that time, I'm pretty happy with individual DVRs and paying a little more.

So ... for 1 Hopper and 2 Joey's would I pay

1. Hopper - $7
2. Joey #1- $7
3. Joey $2 - $7
4. DVR Fee - $6
5. Whole Home DVR Fee - $4

For a total of 7 + 7 + 7 + 6 + 4 = $31

Or is the first Hopper and Joey waived resulting in 7 + 6 + 4 = $17?

I think I vaguely remember when I bought my 612 for the trailer it was the only EHD compatible that didn't require a phone connection because it only had one tuner. I think that all dual tuner receivers have to be connected to the internet or phone line.

And the second account wouldn't work for me because EHDs can only move from receivers on the same account so no bringing shows recorded at home on the road which for me is the only reason to travel with Dish, except for cable news which I could learn to live without.

I too will be holding out for OTA support. 1+1 setup will get me what I have now with 2 TVs, possibly consider moving up to 1H+2J when the time comes.

There shouldn't be a fee for the first Hopper and possibly even the first Joey.
For the first Hopper, I 100% agree. For the Joey, well, you don't need a Joey just because you have a Hopper, correct ? They could very well throw it under "additional receiver fee".

Just keep doing that.... you have little to nothing to worry about. If the Dish audit teams were to call on a weekend you were gone from home, no one would be able to -- or not be able to -- go through the audit.

Yes, but to stay in line with their current pricing structure, a dual-tuner receiver is currently free, serving up to 2 TVs. I would think to keep from pissing off a ton of their customers that they would have to offer a 2 TV solution (1H 1J) at similar costs.

True, but they get the additional $4/mo. It is worth it for people who need to connect 2 hd sets.

The "additional" $4 a month is the same as the now defunct 922 was, with a similar UI. And like you said, being able to have HD in 2 rooms now instead of 1 is also worth the extra $4 to me, at least.

When will we get C-SPAN3?
