Dish Hopper Pricing Rumors Thread

I run 6 tvs from a 622 and a 722. 4 tvs have access to their own tuners( 2hd tuners and 2 sd). The other 2 tvs must share the sd tuners. They do have access to OTA and a DVR. So all 6 tvs can watch different programming( with restrictions) at the same time. The cost to do this is $17 (2nd receiver with dvr fee) and $6 dvr fee for $23.I will need 2 hoppers and 4 Joeys to get the same with the advantage that all tvs can have their own hd tuner. From what I read above the cost would be either best case $31 ( 1st hopper and joey is free, second hopper and joey is $7 , and 2 more joeys are $14 and $10 dvr fee) or worst case $45 ( 1st hopper free then 5(hopper and 4 joeys) x $7 and $10 dvr fee). So in both cases I pay more. In the best case it is $8 more and the worst case it is $22 more. So until I buy more hd tvs I hope Dish plans to support 622s and 722s for a long time.

Did you read the first post? or even the thread, maybe? Pricing specifics are still in question, and nothing more has been said about any more details.

Yes I read the whole thread and understand. I'm assuming it will cost the same as adding a receiver. So let me rephrase: if you got a 722 for example, would it be cheaper through the service plan. This has already been partly answered. My question now is what is the min term for the service plan?

For the first Hopper, I 100% agree. For the Joey, well, you don't need a Joey just because you have a Hopper, correct ? They could very well throw it under "additional receiver fee".

Yes, but to stay in line with their current pricing structure, a dual-tuner receiver is currently free, serving up to 2 TVs. I would think to keep from pissing off a ton of their customers that they would have to offer a 2 TV solution (1H 1J) at similar costs.

True, but they get the additional $4/mo. It is worth it for people who need to connect 2 hd sets.

The "additional" $4 a month is the same as the now defunct 922 was, with a similar UI. And like you said, being able to have HD in 2 rooms now instead of 1 is also worth the extra $4 to me, at least.

If both the 1st Hopper AND 1st Joey are included for free, that would be great. It would actually be a few bucks cheaper than the 722k/211k setup I have now, even with the $4 whole-home fee. But, I have a feeling, that only the 1st Hopper will be free, with each Joey costing $7/mo. including the 1st.
For the reasons I stated above, I think the first Joey will be free along with the first Hopper.

I can tell you techs are getting training on them now, and I know a number of folks who have units now. In addition I am told they have 1.5 million units ready to ship.

I say around March 1st the floodgates should open.

yea, I'm starting to think they'll ship before 3/1 primarily because they are making such a HUGE splash about them on DISH.COM. It's the first receiver posted when looking at technology, and if I was a potential customer I wouldn't settle for less - I'd wait till it was out. I can't imagine DISH going into a holding pattern for 6 weeks.

Great catch on the DHA agreement. Hadn't processed one today.

They may just do what D* has done, and limit them to one Hopper at the outset. Then change that policy to allow for more at a later date. That would make sense since I suspect the demand for the Hopper to be huge at first.

DHA Agreement states "One Whole Home DVR Service Fee will apply per account with at least one Hopper 2000 receiver active."

But that is not to say that they might initially limit Hoppers to one per customer, until the demand settles down a bit.

It has been 5 months. I don't know if that's changing or not though.

Dish Network is not going to let the Joey's be $5 per month. They will price them at $7 (or more). They want their money and they will NOT lower costs.

The first Hopper and Joey at $10 per month would match the 922 on cost and match their current setup of x22 receivers on the account where there is no fee on the first dual tv output television on the account.

If its $10 for the first Hopper and Joey and only $7 for the second Hopper then they really got a winner here. If that ends up being the case then why would someone add another Joey when they can get a Hopper for the same monthly cost? The only reason why I would see someone getting a Joey instead is if they think they won't need all those tuners to record several things at once while someone is watching live tv and if someone is avoiding the hardware upgrade fee on the second Hopper.

The first Hopper free and the second hopper at $99 for an upgrade fee would not be a bad deal for existing subscribers. It would be worth it for the extra tuners and extra hard drive space you would have.

Ok, so there's going to be a $6+$4=$10 Whole Home DVR fee if all a customers wants is 1 Hopper and no Joeys? That seems kinda odd, unless you can't get a Hopper w/o a Joey. I was planning on just one Hopper since I feed all my rooms with my 622 via Cat6/HDMI, and don't need a Joey (especially since Joeys won't do PIP).

Good info. Thanks to all.

So here are some possible install costs, assuming it's the same as any other receiver costs today:

Protection Plan $6 + Cancel penalty $25 + Service call $15 = $46
Normal service call = $95
Cost of my last receiver install = $50

So for now it looks like the plan is the way to go, barring any new info on lower costs upon release.

It's also worth noting (as others have mentioned) that returning a deactivated box is free, unlike returning equipment after cancelling service entirely.

I don't see how they can charge $7 for a Joey unit that is actually not a satellite receiver connected to the network.

They should give people the option to buy their Joey units to avoid the monthly fees.
agreed, but i'm guessing they won't so they can generate huge profits on leasing hardware.

Claude, sometimes you act like you have never been a dealer regarding this. Nothing new on the lease vs owned!

When will we get C-SPAN3?

Can Dish Network Marketing Sink any Lower?
