2013 MLB Postseason

Hanley maybe done for the year. Possible broken ribs from being hit by a pitch yesterday.

If his season is done, so are the Dodgers. Their record with and without him is day and night. They cannot win without him and kemp done.

Dodgers have gone ice cold at the wrong time. Injuries have very little to do with it. Bases loaded nobody out and they swung away like little leaguers. They have consistently had chances offensively. Ice cold. Sad .

LA Times had a front page article online about Tony LaRussa possibly taking over for Mattingly next year. How the worm has turned since Tuesday!!!!

Hopefully, with his incredibly horrible series, this will bring some of the bravado out of Puig next season. He looked like. A little leaguer today 0-4 in a big way!

When the Cards scored the 1 and only run of the game I was going to post this:

With Hanley out and that run, this game game and the Dodgers season is over.

I decided not to post it because you guys would focus on me as opposed to what was actually said. So I will say it now instead, "With Hanley out and that run, this game game and the Dodgers season is over."

I know this team better than anyone on this forum. Very few teams can overcome losing such vital offensive players. What makes it worse is that these injuries force the other regulars to hit out of their normal spots in the lineup and hit in spots that is not conducive to the type of hitter. We have a guy batting leadoff that should be batting 6th or 7th. A guy batting cleanup that should be batting leadoff (way too much pressure on a rookie in such a spot). A guy batting 2nd that should be batting 8th. A guy batting 3rd that should be batting 4th or 5th. A guy batting 5th that should be batting 7th or 8th. Those that are filling in should not be batting at all.

This team is just not the same team without the key players.

Injuries have everything to do with it. That's what happens when you have bench players forced to play and coming up to bat in key spots when they should not be batting at all. Or guys that should be batting at the bottom or top of the lineup forced to become key drive in run guys. This just doesn't work.

The season is now over. I look for them to be stronger next year with healthy players and key signings. The injury bug made a huge impact in the regular season. Their record with and without these key players was very very different. I just hoped they would stay healthy during the playoffs. Unfortunately, they now have to play the under .500 April, May, and September team in October instead of the healthy and well over .500 June, July, and August team.

With that knock out of Hanley in the 1 inning of game 1 was also the knock out of the Dodgers in the playoffs. One pitch and the whole series can change. Yes, Hanely is that important. He wouldn't be as important if they had a healthy Kemp and Ethier.

Now I will have to root for the Cards in the WS.

Puig and Uribe in spots where they did'nt belong???? Not buying it. The team has gone cold and would be the same with Hanley right now. Sad to say, they peaked too soon.

Not in that spot in the lineup, no. Puig gets it started at the top. Uribe adds to it at the bottom of the lineup. This was my whole point about players batting out of position. Injuries affect more than just that 1 spot in the lineup.

I posted the lineup before the game even started and said exactly that. I said this lineup will not be able to score many runs.

Here is my post. This is why it is no surprise to me at all.

No Hanley and no Ethier. Their lineup just got drastically weaker. It will be difficult for them to win without them. They need this game. Lose, and they're done.

Crawford
M Ellis
Gonzalez
Puig
Uribe
Schumaker
AJ Ellis
Punto
Kershaw

This is a very week hitting lineup. It also forces people to hit out of position.

Don't think I was just being gloomy just for the sake of being gloomy. If you scroll through my posts on these threads I will also predict good outcomes as well. It is based on the lineup they feature.

Now they are calling for Mattingly to be fired. Pathetic. It's Mattingly's fault that they get injured? All year we have seen two different teams. The injured team that cannot win (April, May, and September), and the healthy team that cleans the floor (June, July, August). During April and May they were calling for Mattingly to be fired. During June through August they were saying he is in the running for manager of the year.

It has nothing to do with the manager. It has to do with the team that is featured based on health. When they are healthy they win. When they are not they lose. It is not a matter of just one or two two players. It is a matter of three very important players. No team can overcome losing their 3, 4, and 5 hitters, two of whom were runners up for MVP at one time.

Mattingly says Hanley's X-rays are negative.

That is very good news. If he is healthy and is able to play at least 90%, they still have a chance. Slight, but still a chance.

If he can't play, there is no way in the world they can win this series. No way!!!

The Cards are just better than the Dodgers. Going cold and injuries are no excuse. Wacha is the real deal, and Wainwright is coming up. They will be tough to beat by anyone.

Not an excuse, just an explanation.

But I do agree that the Cards are the best team in the NL. On paper it is the Dodgers that are the better team. But year after the year the Cards do everything right to win, no matter how much talent they have. They are just a good all around solid winning team. Even a healthy Dodgers team would have a tough time against them.

The health point I am making is not an excuse. I am simply pointing out how much different the two offenses are with or without these key players. It does hinder their ability to score. It has all year no matter who they played.

Teams that win championships are built more like the Cards and Sox. The Giants were the same way last year. When a team is dependent on a few key dominate hitters and pitchers, they usually do not win. When those players get injured, so does the team. When those players slump, so does the team.

The Sox are just like the Cards. They do not have that superstar player or that very dominate Ace. They just have a good solid winning team that does everything to win.

That is why I am predicting a Cards and Sox WS. Although I will be rooting for the Tigers and Dodgers.
