2011 AL Central Thread

i think the twins run is over window closed! say hello to the royals as that will be there primary competition for years to come. twins will be cellar dwellers for the foreseeable future.

Not a typical Verlander shut down game, although he pitched ok. Tigers find a way to win anyways. They seem to be making a habit of that lately.

I think you're throwing the baby out with the bath water. The Twins have work to do, but there is definitely hope.

The Indians will be back too. The run was fun while it lasted, but we couldn't overcome all the injuries that kept piling up.

I challenge any club to lose their entire starting outfield, half their infield and designated hitter all while still maintaining a playoff push. That's like taking Granderson, Cano, Swisher, Gardner, A-Rod and Chavez off the Yankees. Just aint gonna happen.

Good luck in the playoffs Detroit. It's been fun. See you in 2012. I'm turning my attention towards football. :hatsoff: :wave

I agree, the Indians have good reasons to be optimistic next year. Of course, you're more than welcome to cheer for the Tigers during the playoffs. :)

The Tigers have now passed Texas to be number 2 in the standings among division leaders. Before yesterday we were scheduled to play the Yankees in the first round of the playoffs and Yankees would have home field advantage. If the season ended today we would play Boston in the first round and we would have home field advantage. The Tigers currently have a half game lead on the Rangers and both teams are off today.

I never thought we would be in this postion, but holding onto the #2 spot is huge since it would give us a big advantage against the Red Sox. Of course, it's always a battle trying to rest the best players so they're 100% ready for the post-season.

I know the NFL is back but things have sure died down in this thread. The division is over but like riffjim said we still have something to play for in the regular season. I'm all for us trying to hold on to our lead over Texas as long as we don't avoid giving our most important players some rest before the playoffs.

Today's lineup:

1. Jackson CF
2. Ordonez RF
3. Young LF
4. Cabrera 1st
5. Martinez DH
6. Avila C
7. Peralta SS
8. Betemit 3rd
9. Santiago 2nd

Penny is pitching. It looks like Leyland is sending all the big bats out there to try to score enough to win with Penny on the mound.

Tigers win tonight.
They are 9-1 in the last 10 and 16-4 in the last 20.
Also, they are 6 games over .500 on the ROAD, which has always been an issue for them.

It's been an issue for me too since it is impossible to finish on top in this league if you can't fine a way to win on the road. Regardless, I'm wondering Leyland is going to play for the #2 spot (ahead of Texas) or rest his starters as much as possible. We could sure use another left-handed batter with power in the lineup (Boesch).

For those that are having baseball withdrawls...
