2011 AL Central Thread

Anyway, we played 'em close and had a chance to win one in late innings on the road. That's all you ask for...but a loss is always a bitter pill to swallow. Let's hope we come out swinging tomorrow.

Fortunately, they have been winning most of thier 1 run games.
They were due to drop one ... good time to start another streak !

Yeah tough loss for Below who didn't deserve that. We might have lost later anyways I guess. The good news is the Indians lost and the Sox are down 3-0 in the 3rd against Weaver. They should have a tough time coming back on him.

Yea, Sox lost!

I actually more worried about the White Sox becoming a threat to Detroit than Cleveland.

I don't blame you. The injuries are piling up at the worst possible time for the Indians. With them, we're digging ourselves a deep hole. And quite honestly, it'll be tough to even field a team these next few days. Sin Soo Choo just joined a list of injured Indians, including Hafner (right foot), Michael Brantley (right wrist), Jason Kipnis (right hamstring, right oblique) and Grady Sizemore (right knee and hernia surgery). Hafner, Sizemore and Kipnis are on the disabled list. Choo and Brantley are day to day. Hafner is considering season ending foot surgery. Ugh!!!!!!!!

Todays lineup

1. Jackson CF
2. Santiago 2nd
3. Young LF
4. Martinez DH
5. Betemit 3rd
6. Kelly 1st
7. Peralta SS
8. Rayburn RF
9. Santos Catching

Fister is starting and Santos was called up for today to fill Cabrera's roster spot while he is on paternity leave. Avila finally gets his day off today. Our lineup sure doesn't look as scary today with Cabrera and Avila both out.

In regard to inge's play last night leyland this morning called it a "mental mistake"

No doubt about it, he threw to the wrong base. In his defense though, if Santiago was covering 2nd like he should have been they would have gotten the out. Santiago let the runner beat him to 2nd and you can never do that.

I'm hoping Fister has another good outting this afternoon. Last night was a tough loss, but I would be in heaven if we can take 3-out-4 from Tampa. :)

Hellickson is having a better year than David Price. It is probably going to be tough to score enough runs on him to win today especially with Avila and Cabrera out of the lineup. That being said, if Fister pitches like he did against Cleveland last weekend we will get the win today.

"Game breaking mental mistake" is more accurate. Plus, Leyland didn't mention Inge bobbling a routing double-play ball which, if he handled, would have made his "mental mistake" moot since the inning would have already been over. Glad to see Betemit in the starting lineup since he is batting .309 since joining the team.

Twins swept by the Orioles. I don't like thinking this, but the boys may have quit, something I'm not used to seeing in a Twins team. We'll get a good idea this weekend when Detroit rolls into town.

Well, you're in luck because they'll be batting against the Tigers' Porcello who is quickly becoming our weakest-link in the lineup. We'll see tomorrow night.

I love it when we get good pitching; 2-0 win for the Tigers! :)

Yep, great job by Fister and the bull pen today to shut out the Rays with 2 of our scariest bats out of the lineup.

Santos did a good job calling the pitches today too to give Avila his day off. Santos is optioned back to Toledo and Cabrera is rejoining the team in Minnesota tomorrow. You can bet he will be called back up as a backup catcher when the rosters expand in September.

Obviously, Santiago has no idea that Inge would be throwing anywhere other than 1B as well....

I don't know what the Twins are smoking lately, but they should have held on to Thome.

IMHO, they should have not traded Dalmon Young to the Tigers like they did last week.

If they are going to trade these guys, get something reasonable in Return. The Tigers got Young for a song and a dance.

As much as I like the Minnesota way of doing things, I find this deal with Thome to be very poor.

They kept him till he got his 600th HR and then a few weeks later released/traded him ?

How cool would it have been for Thome to hit his 600th in a Tribe uniform? Just a few weeks shy. Oh well. Welcome back Jim. It's been a while!!!

For those that are having baseball withdrawls...
