2011 AL Central Thread

Oh I know it isn't over yet. I just don't think Cleveland or Chicago can pass us on their own now. I think both teams will need a collapse by the Tigers to win the division. We have been known to collapse towards the end in the last few years though. I don't think it will happen this year.

Tonight's Tigers Line Up:

CF Jackson
RF Ordonez
LF Young
1B Cabrera
DH Martinez
C Avila
SS Peralta
2B Raburn
3B Inge

So much for Avila not catching and Inge catching instead.
Good to see Martinez back in the line up
Ordonez in for Boesch, I think I'd rather have Boesch, but Brennen might be needing a break.

Let's just hope we get some "pop" out of that Rayburn-Inge combo. Boesch still has a sore thumb from what I've heard. Finally, well...I don't know what to say about Penny. Go Tigers!

Well the Tiger hitters are showing a ton of patience tonight. What dud he throw 4 pitches that inning. Nice. Btw when is cabrera going to start hitting meaningful hits again?

I've been waiting for that for a long time now ... seems like he's letting Victor and Peralta do all the work .... Cabrera needs to pick it up with the Clutch hits in order for us to win the division, that said, he was on third and scored the 1st run tonight.

Phil Coke does his best Todd Jones impersonation, AND manages to hang on and Tigers Win tonight 2-1.

Cleveland won earlier today 7-5 and play a second half of thier D/H tonight.
Mainers beat the Indians in game 2 ...12-7.
Tigers pick up a 1/2 game on the Indians tonight.
White Sox playing on the Left Coast tonight tied at 2 with the Angels

Who would have thought Brad Penny would win a pitching duel against David Price? Phil Coke really bailed out Leyland after he wasted Valverde in a game where we didn't need him. Now if we could win at least 1 out of the next 2 against the Rays we can take the series against a good team.

Angels are up on the White Sox going into the bottom of the 4th.

Leyland explained why he used Valverde last night in a 5-2 game.
Valverde had been up warming up for a few innings, when they went to the 8th (think it was) it was a 2-1 game and they would need him, then they scored and made it 5-1, at the time, seeing he was the only one warmed up, he went in.

He should have started warming someone else up. All but one of those Tigers runs came in the top of the 8th. There was no saving Benoit but he should at least gotten someone else up with Valverde when they scored all those runs in the 8th.

In the end we got away with it and it all worked out. There would have been a lot of angry people in Detroit if Coke would have blown that game in the 9th but luckily we don't have to go there.

Fwiw, Tigers up by 6 over both the Indians and Sox

We're actually up to 6.5 over the White Sox now. If we can get both of them to 7 games back before September we will be almost impossible to catch. Its already going to be tough. It would be really nice if we could clench the division a few days early so we can rest all of the guys before the playoffs (especially Avila).

Indians get Felix Hernandez and White Sox get Jared Weaver tonight. If we can pull off our 6th straight win there is a decent chance that we will gain another game on both of those teams.
