2011 AL Central Thread

Oh Boy, 2nd place all alone for the 1st time. Sweep in Seattle. The next 2 weeks will tell if the Sox have even half a chance to make up 6 games in the last 31 games.

Yep, we're getting ready for the home-streach. However, I have the feeling everything will be known by this time next Sunday. The Tigers are getting ready to host the Royals and the White Sox are hosting the Twins before heading to Detroit for a big 3-game weekend series. Of course, the Indians can quietly win 5 or 6 during this time and they are right in the thick of it. We shall see.

I think we take 3 of 4 from Kansas City this week. As long as we keep winning series no one can pass us. We just have to avoid the losing streaks. I think Scherzer and Fister both get wins and we take one of the two with Porcello and Turner.

I'm looking forward to seeing Turner make his 2nd start in the big leagues Thursday. I was pretty impressed with his start against the Angels earlier this year.

I think we would have a shot at a sweep if Leyland didn't rest Verlander (which is a very good move BTW). Heck, I would like to have seen Turner oust Perry of his start in the rotation...

Two ways to improve the Tigers...

Porcello and Penny are at the bottom on the barrel when it comes to MLB starting pitcher's ERA. Offhand, I look at this stat as two ways for the Tigers to improve next year:

1. Get rid of Penny and his 3M salary. Offhand, I would sign Fister who is only making 436K and finishing out the year on a 1-year contract coming from Seattle.

2. Porcello is still young...but is he showing signs of developing into a reliable starter or have we given him enough time? I'm torn on this issue.

Do the Tigers have anyone else in the farm system ready to move up next season?

Yes .... Jacob Turner and Andrew Oliver

I think Turner is slightly ahead of Oliver, but Oliver is pitching at AAA while Turner was at AA.
