2011 AL Central Thread

We have not had a problem with Masterson yet. Carmona had a decent game against us last week, but that was our dault for the lack of patience.

I cannot believe he has not moved JV up in this series.

I saw an interview with Leyland where they asked him why he didn't move Verlander up a day with the day off. He said they started at the last game of the season and worked their way backwards when they moved him up to pitch against Cleveland last time. We play Cleveland to end the season and he said he wanted to make sure Verlander was scheduled to pitch the very last game of the season.

He said that way if we need to win the game we have him out there but if we have already clinched the division he can rest him. He said that is the only way Verlander would be able to pitch 2 games in the first round of the playoffs is if they can rest him in the last series. He also said Verlander would pitch 3 out of the last 4 series against the Indians. This would be the only series against them he wouldn't pitch in.

I contacted MLB Network because their schedule shows regional coverage of Cleveland vs Detroit and New York vs Milwaukee, and they do not have a regional coverage map posted on their website. I haven't been able to make heads-or-tails or tails of their game coverage - may as well toss a coin at game time. For example, when staying in Virginia I recall they broadcast the St. Louis vs Milwaukee game vice the Detroit vs Cleveland game. WTF? I just assumed this due to my being in Washington Senators (aka Nationals) but, because of MASN, we're also in the Baltimore Orioles area. Heck, St. Louis and Milwaukee aren't even in the same division as Washington. Anyway, I talked to someone in programming and she was just as clueless because it involved a formula that took into account both the Nationals and Orioles schedules and even potential ratings. I've had similar WTF? moments while watching regional coverage in Dallas as well.

Anyway, I was told that the Cleveland-Detroit game would be broadcast in VA this evening...but I don't have a lot of confidence in her statement. We shall see.

Leyland was quoted (MLB Network) as saying the Tigers needs more consistent starting pitching (minus Verlander) and better defense. I'm going on a limb and predicting the Tigers sweep this series!

:behindsofa:

I'll join you on that limb. Before I switched to Dish and actually had access to MLB Network I thought they also gave us an ALT channel for the other game. Maybe I'm wrong but that's how I thought it was. I know we could watch an ALT game if the Tigers were on the main channel because that was blacked out here. I'm not sure if you still get a choice if you're not blacked out locally from either game though.

No such luck over here...Big Ten alternate channels disappeared during the areas analog-to-digital conversion (Comcast) and they never carried an MLB Network alternate channel. At least MLB Network is now is in HD and the local HD lineup has expanded from 46 to around 100 channels. I plan to pick-up a pizza on my way home to enjoy while watching the game. Of course, my neighbors will hear a blood curdling scream should I tune into the Brewers-Mets game.

BTW, that's one shaky limb given the Tigers starting rotation coupled with the fact we don't see Verlander this series.

Guys,
MLB network DOES have an Alt. Channel ... on D* they are 213 and 214.

If the Tigers are scheduled to be on one, here, the Tigers will be Blacked out normally and the other game will be shown on the other channel.

Excellent pitching matchup in the Tigers-Indians game; Scherzer has been throwing well and Tomlin made 1-mistake giving up a 2-run HR to Jackson. Elsewhere, Chisenhall should have called out on strikes. 2-1 Tigers going into the bottom of the 7th.

At Twins/Yankees. Not going well, Twins down three, after five.
