2011 AL Central Thread

I've been out of the loop with working but damn the Twins have fallen...werent they like 5 or 6 games out?

Now they're 12 out

I don't think we'll have a happy ending this year, Ice.

One happy note: I've got tickets to Friday night at Target vs the Yankees.

More on that rain...

The Indians will now play 45 games in the last 44 days of the season, including three doubleheaders. Sunday’s rainout, which should have never been started in the first place, will end up being rescheduled when the Twins come in September 23-25, the last weekend home series of the season. During that week, the Tribe will be playing nine games in seven days, as a makeup game with the White Sox is already scheduled as a part of a day/night doubleheader on Tuesday September 20th.

I'll take 2 out of 3 from Baltimore even though we lost half a game out of it. Now we need to beat up on the Twins and go for the sweep while Chicago and Cleveland take games from each other. I would like to see Chicago take 2 of 3 since Cleveland is closer to us in the standings.

Could it be the end of Ordonez's time in Detroit? I know Young hasn't had his best season so far this year but but he hit .298 with 112 RBI last season. I think he could help us get into the playoffs this year and I really like the move by Dombrowski.

Even though they aren't playing well, I don't think you'll see the Twins quit. Struggle, yes, but not quit.

A night at the ballpark, even when your team isn't playing well, is still a good thing!

Young was good last year, but he's been injured and disappointing this year. With Revere coming on well, he was extraneous.

I understand that you guys have younger talent. I don't think his season last year was a fluke though. I think he can help us this year and hopefully into the future. Young is supposedly batting third tonight which is even more evidence that they might cut Ordonez.

Young is also only 25 I think and Ordonez has really declined the last couple seasons.

According to the Detroit talk radio station 97.1 the Ticket, Cleveland was trying to make a deal with Young. They claimed that this was partially a move to keep him out of Cleveland. I don't think we had to give up a whole lot to get him either.

Interesting trade, I am thinking maggs will be sitting more though with that 11 million contract!

I think so. As much as we've all enjoyed and appreciated Magglio I think the writing is on the wall. His best years are behind him and age and injuries are catching up. Good move by Dombrowski.

I agree. I appreciate what he has done here but he just isn't producing anymore. They have Young batting 3rd today and Magglio batting 7th with Boesch out of the lineup again. I think they are waiting for Boesch to be full time again instead of day-to-day and then we will see Magglio designated for assignment.

Now if we can only get Jackson batting .280 in the leadoff position, replace Penny with a quality 5th starter, and have Zumaya return 100%...we're going to have a ballclub! I can dream! :)

I think Ordonez is in a 1 year contract anyways.

Who has a contract up for renewal? Verlander is a steal at 12.8M (we should pay him more)...Guillen is overpriced at 13M...and I think Inge still has another on his contract for something like 5.5M per year. I'm pretty sure this is Guillen's final year of a 4-year contract so I expect the Tigers to part ways with him...Magglio too unless he is willing to cut his 10M salary in half. To be honest, I would like to see him Magglio stick around for two more years at 5M per. At age 38 (next year) I don't see Magglio as having too many options. Additionally, I think we're going to have to pay folks like Boesch and Scherzer something extra.

I think Maggs was at 16 last year and took 10 this year, I don't see him coming back for 5 next year, but it would be nice.
I would think 7-8 would be what he may agree on, IF they offer him anything.

Verlander's contract goes up each year over the next 4 I think.
Yes, I think we'll be paying Boesch for awhile !
