Maybe it's me, Hoge just comes off as a douche bag no matter what he says.

I did like Tebow's respone.
@TimTebow Hey Merril...... 'ppreciate that

cosmo and slasa make valid points that i agree with but i still feel the same way as you do about Hoge lol...
can't stand the guy

As much as jerk as he comes off to be, he DOES have access to information that none of here will ever have. So the only issue with him as far as my concern...his delivery. He more than likely is right, but you don't have to be a d**k about it.

Looky, looky....

Boss in Oakland for a workout

Eli Manning said he has called Kevin Boss and hopes Boss will be with the Giants on Thursday.

We assume Manning was being optimistic.

On Wednesday, Boss worked out for the Oakland Raiders, who are scrambling to replace Zach Miller.

Boss caught passes from quarterback Jordan La Secla for about 15 minutes and then visited the Raiders locker room at their facility in Napa.

“We're going to work him out, see where he's at," Raiders head coach Hue Jackson said according to CSN California. "He’s a big target. He’s a big guy... he can run, and he’s played in tough games before."

Boss looked impressive according to Comcast SportsNet California Raiders’ beat writer Paul Gutierrez.

Well I haven't seen Merrill Hoge often enough to have an opinion...isn't he on that ESPN NFL Matchup show with Ron Jaworski? I think I've seen it once or twice, but not recently. That show is universaly acclaimed as giving you the best X's and O's pregame info in the business.

But there are others out there who I do not like...not necessarily because of what they say (although sometimes it is what they say), but more because of how they say it. Mike Francessa, Stephen A Smith, Mike Lupica, Tony Kornhiser, Dick Vitale, and some others I'm forgetting, either scream at you or talk to you like they know everything and you know nothing.

How many players are the Raiders going to cut to take on a TE and still get under the cap by Friday if they're 11-15m+ over it now?

Raiders scrambling to get under salary cap

I wonder if they'd cut Routt or Seymour if they wont restructure, I'm not sure either one of them gets contracts that large with other teams. Maybe Seymour.

cap less season biting some in the ass now. the ones with the deep pockets. one positive for me is that my fins are cheap bastards :D

Maybe Seymour is tired of not playing for a Superbowl contender, he played for one every year in New England, so if he refuses a pay cut maybe he goes to a contender.

I don't think it would happen, but cutting Seymour would save them $11.2m, being reported they're going to try and resturcture his deal so they can save that amount.

A little strange to see a deal signed and then reworked the same offseason. How were they supposed to afford Zach Miller with their cap in this shape? lol.

Maybe Seymour will say no.

To get Boss they've got to get under the cap enough to outbid the Giants, who are at the cap themselves.

New England should have never traded him. They have struggled to find someone half as good as he is NOW and he is 2 years older.

Maybe they will, maybe they won't...but they need to try and if Seymour is the team player I think and hope he is, we will restructure his contract, like other great team players have done to improve their teams chances of getting good players.

I'm not trying to say Hoge will be right about Tebow, but he does seem to be plugged in to the league. He is on record using words like 'baby' and 'soft' in describing players like Matt Leinart and Vince Young early on in their NFL careers. Arguably, he has been right about them so far.

Shaq would say it's because they never played the game, or played it at a very high level...

It was either pay him or Wilfork. They made the right decision. Wilfork is better at his position and younger than Seymour.

I think NE will be pretty happy with the trade if they get a serviceable or better tackle from the 1st round pick Oakland gave them for a player who is expensive and probably winding down his career. He's good, but they were smart to move him when they could get something for him... especially with Oakland willing to give up a first.

Oakland is the one that shouldnt have made the trade, that's the kind of trade you make if you're a contender looking to add a new element to a successful team and make another playoff push.

Oakland was looking for an anchor to the team defense as well as character guy in the locker room. I will admit they paid alot for him but what he has brought in leadership qualities to a young team is what they are pay for the most.

I said he is better at his position, Vince is a top 2 nose tackle it is between him and Haloti Ngata. Seymour, who is a very good player, is not a Top 2 defensive tackle.

No...not a top 2....but still playing at a pro bowl level AND a team leader in the clubhouse for a very young defensive team....something the Raiders desperately needed. Plenty of times, I remember hearing how since he has left, the Pats defense has not been the same.

But it's not just Seymour's departure that caused the Pats to rebuild their defense. Bruschi, Vrabel and Harrison all departed and were all major cogs on those teams.

IMO, the Pats did the right thing when they started to infuse youth in their defense. If you recall the 2006-07 AFCCG in Indianapolis, the Pats had a huge lead against the Colts, but their aging defense wilted in the second half. That's when it became clear speed and youth was needed.

After the Celtics championship run in the 80's the team in general and the Big Three in particular aged before my eyes. I vowed then, to never let sentimentality as a fan obscure my judgment.

Looking at the Pats' schedule- damn, they have a lot of marquee games (Giants, Cowboys, twice w/Jets, Eagles, Bolts).

Good omen, perhaps- half of New England's 6 Super Bowl appearances came in seasons when they played the NFC East.

He does not look or has not looked slow to me. We lost a #1 but gained a beast of a defensive linemen and a true leader which has changed the me 1st attitude in that locker room. Here's to hoping he does the right thing and restructure that contract.
